the attached song is talk to me by cavetown
the next artist i decided to do is cavetown!
i am also very much trash for him.
i've been listening to his music for just over a year now, but somehow he was my most listened to artist on spotify. i had the blessing of being able to see him in concert this past october and his music has changed my life. and i'm not being dramatic ehehe. i made an aesthetic for him in my aesthetics book so go check that out if you want to!
cavetown, aka robin (robbie) skinner (21) started putting music out in 2012. he started out with doing youtube videos and published his first video, a song, in 2013. he also released music to bandcamp in 2013 and it was there that he released his first album at the age of 14. he proceeded to release more music onto bandcamp, until 2015, he released his debut single, "This Is Home," his most popular song to this day. his music is very emo, but still soft. he does vocals, ukulele, and guitar, along with some other instruments.
robbie has released four "official" albums, not including the first one on bandcamp, and several ep's and singles. like i said, his most popular songs are this is home, along with boys will be bugs, lemon boy, fool, devil town, and a few others. boys will be bugs is off of his ep animal kingdom: comet. lemon boy and fool are off of his most recent album, lemon boy. devil town is off of his debut album, cavetown.
his albums are cavetown, 16/04/16, lemon boy, and live at hoxton hall which is just a few of his songs live. his ep's are dear., animal kingdom: sandy, animal kingdom: comet, devinyl splits, animal kingdom: ash, animal kingdom: shells, and animal kingdom: jackson. he did all of his ep's, except for dear. with other people. his singles are this is home, just add water, home, feb 14, telescope, things that make it warm, and you've got a friend in me which is a cover of the song from toy story.
robbie also does youtube videos. he has over 1 million subscribers. he does a lot of really calming videos. he used to upload fanmail opening videos and he also does qna's or ama's and advice videos, along with some other random videos. they always make me smile and they put me in such a good mood.
robbie doesn't have a huge fanbase, but there is a cavetown amino that i joined about a year ago and i've met some amazing people on there. the fans are really nice and i've yet to meet a toxic one. since he's a small artist, his concerts are small as well meaning small venues that are mostly just standing. when i went to his concert, everyone was really nice and no one was pushy or rude. it's probably one of the most wholesome fanbases i've joined.
the genre is probably a soft alternative. i've seen people describe it as bedroom pop which i'd say is also accurate. he does a lot of ukulele and guitar, along with some other instruments. he records all of his music alone. like i said, his music is pretty emo, targeting lots of sad stuff. his music also involves a lot, like a lot of symbolism which i really love. his music ranges from soft ukulele to upbeat guitar, to almost heavy electric guitar.
favorite album/ep: my favorite album is probably 16/04/16 and my favorite ep is dear.
favorite song(s): either just add water (dear.), fool (lemon boy), or devil town v2 (devinyl splits).
how i got into him: again, one of my friend FriscoFraserEstes showed me This Is Home and i really loved it, so i continued to listen to his music and it meant so much to me and changed my life. i'd also seen a few of his videos pop up on my youtube recommended, but i never bothered to watch them until i started listening to his music.
why: i listen to cavetown because his music helped me through a lot of tough times and sleepless nights. he has a really calming voice and there have been many, many times where he's put me to sleep or helped soothe anxiety. some of his lyrics applied so much to my life and it felt so, so good to just know that i wasn't the only one experiencing those things. he is also so incredibly talented and his musical abilities are amazing. it's also really nice that he has a youtube channel where he does things other than music which is different from other artists. it shows the non-music side of him and lets fans into his real life.
i'm pretty sure he's on all of the streaming services if you want to check him out!
i think that, again, if you struggle with anxiety and other things of that sort, you should check out his songs! also, because he is a small artist, he needs all the support he can get!!
