It all starts with one question.
"So what instrument are you going to play?"
Your mind goes in a billion different directions, thinking of all the different possibilities. Not aware of the stereotypes, but destined to fit one of them. Your choice impacts the rest of your band career. Nobody wants to make the wrong choice, but only a few will find what they desire.Flute. A soft and delicate instrument that produces a sound that can make people swoon.
Saxophone. An iconic jazz instrument that can be soul of a good swing tune.
Clarinet. The ghost of the band. It's always front and center, but no one seems to pay too much attention. a beautiful sound, but taken for granted.I know I can cross all those off my list. None of them fit me. So many people chose their instrument based on what looks the coolest. An instrument turns out to be your label. And I don't want to be stuck with the wrong one.
Trombone. A beautiful instrument with a beautiful sound. If I was maybe a foot taller I would fit the instrument!
Percussion? Too bad I'm horrible with my hands.I can just forget those.
Trumpet. An instrument to be dated to at least 1500 BC. An instrument that ranges from a soft whisper to a ringing to be heard above cannons and war cries.
"So what will it be?" the man at the front desk of the music store asks me.
I turn to him and say one word with absolute conviction. "Trumpet."
