Jason

Why did it have to be her?

Why did Piper have to get hurt?

First, her dad was captured by a cyclops and a weird creepy guy in a hood. Second, a stupid prophecy told her she was going to 'meet her end', and Jason hoped it didn't mean what he thought it meant. Third, Jason didn't know what the heck happened, but she was obviously in pain.

Jason sat next to her in the infirmary, though she was still unconscious. Was she going to be okay? Sure she was still breathing, but how did this happen?

Clarisse said she didn't do anything, but Jason couldn't help but feel that she did. It was the only logical reason. But then again, nothing was logical in the demigod world. It probably wasn't Clarisse, but it was definitely not something good.

That made Jason really nervous. What if the thing hadn't left? What if it was standing behind him right now...

"Jason?"

"Holy Hades!" Jason yelped, flipping backwards off of his chair and smacking his head on the floor.

Piper's laugh echoed through the room.

Wow. Real smooth Jason... He thought to himself.

"That's not funny." He grumbled, rubbing his head vigorously.

"No, it wasn't funny. It was hilarious." Piper smiled, stifling another laugh.

Jason couldn't help but smile. It probably did look pretty funny even though it hurt...

He sat back in his chair, suddenly concerned again. "Are you okay?"

Piper's smile melted, her eyes turning a dark shade of green. "I'm fine." She said, not meeting Jason's eyes. She looked so sad, Jason didn't even want to ask what happened, but on the other hand, maybe talking about it would make her feel better.

"Do you know what happened?" He asked softly, slipping a hand into Piper's.

Piper shook her head. "It was just... I don't know. It was like a feeling... But it hurt... In a different way."

Jason raised an eyebrow. "How?"

Piper shook her head. "It doesn't matter."

Jason stared into her eyes, trying to find their exact color. "Yes it does, Piper."

Piper took a deep breath and sighed, putting a hand on her forehead. "It--It was like something was trying to get into my head. Like it was trying to push me out and... take control."

Jason swallowed. That sounded terrifying. Someone trying to take you over and control you. He wondered what would have happened if it had won Piper over. What would it do? Would Piper still be there? Or would it just be the monster that took control? Whatever it was, it didn't sound very good.

"Are you okay?"Jason asked in concern, trying to read her sad expression.

Piper looked up from the floor. "I'm fine, Jason. You don't have to worry so much."

For some reason, this got Jason a little agitated. "I just don't want anything bad to happen to you, that's all." He said sharply, sounding harsher than he wanted to.

Piper swallowed hard, but didn't say anything. Her expression was a mix of sadness, anger, and for some unknown reason, fear.

Jason suddenly felt horrible. Why would he even talk like that to her?

Piper started swung her legs over the side of the bed and started to stand, but Jason stopped her. "I don't think you should--"

"Gods, Jason!" She snapped, her expression turning into anger. "I can take care of myself!" She pushed her way past Jason, striding out of the room and slamming the door in his face.

Jason just stood there, a sour taste filling his mouth. Why was Piper suddenly so tempered? She usually didn't get as angry at little things like this. Something was definitely wrong, and Jason was going to find out why.
