1975 : Wazu
Wazu is a small beautiful remote village engulfed by forests with a variety of pine, cedar, spruce, fig and redwood trees. It hosts about 100 families and there is nothing special about the village as the superstitious villagers spend their time in mundane activities.
Wazu didn't have many tourists and the only visitors it has are from its neighboring villages. Even the neighboring village's people would travel to Wazu only during daylight as it is densely surrounded by forest cover and didn't have proper transportation. The nearest village to Wazu is Limbo which is about 13 miles away.
Limbo:
Limbo is much bigger than Wazu and made its own trade so it was a busy place with many tourists and visitors. It had artists, craftsmen, farmers along with many others of different occupations and on the flip side it also had thugs, thieves and smugglers.
The men of Limbo:
Limbo was a home to 4 notorious thieves who always enjoyed half the loot and stealthily stocked the other half under a grave in Wazu's only graveyard for future use.
These men took the credulous Wazu villager's beliefs of ghosts and spirits to their advantage as they figured none of the villagers would ever go near a grave let alone digging one and so stored their loot under the farthest grave in the village. These men were the masters in the sleight of hands and have always followed a plan to snitch successfully.
Alvin Finn:
Alvin Finn was one of the few writers native to Wazu. His interests greatly lied in writing adventure stories and his books were captivating and seemed real to the readers. In an attempt to make Wazu popular and attract tourists, he also wrote mysterious fiction stories about Wazu. He even convinced the village head to build a few artificial monuments and mysterious places in and near the village to match his fictitious stories so as to attract tourists and generate village's income.
In accordance with Alvin's success, his books about Wazu attracted a fair share of visitors and gradually increased tourists to it. Though it wasn't significant enough to transform the village, Wazu gained popularity and was deemed as the land of mystery.
Fate of Swindlers
As the money poured in, the sense of affluence rolled in and the four robbers spent it lavishly. Soon, they fell victims to the greed of wealth and drugs.
On one such winter night, when they were all high and out of it, a fight broke out between them which escalated quickly leading their brawl to throwing things at each other and accidentally spreading the fire from the fireplace. Before they could escape, the fire blazed up and turned the entire house into ashes along with these 4 inebriated men.
Alvin's trove
Over the years, Alvin aged to be a grandfather but his love for writing stories never ceased. In one of Alvin's mystery stories, he had written about a treasure trove hidden in Wazu and drew a random map leading to it. Although he didn't publish his stories anymore, he secretly preserved them in an old box kept under his cot. His motive was for it to be discovered in the future and he intended that the one who finds it would genuinely believe these stories to be true.
Dasa Finn:
Dasa Finn is Alvin's grandchild and he has always loved to listen to the stories that Alvin had narrated to him. He idolized his grandfather like no other. Dasa was 8 years old when Alvin passed away and a few months later, his parents moved to a town to work for better wages. Dasa studied in Wazu as the school charged only half for his schooling, thanks to Alvin Finn's contributions to the village.
Several months later, Dasa is determined to move into his grandfather's room, so decides to clean the room. He finds the secret box that Alvin had hidden under his cot. Dasa opens it and finds a lot of stories about Wazu. It didn't even occur to the junior Finn that these stories could be fictional as he was too young for wisdom. Dasa grew up reading all of his grandfather's stories and particularly became obsessed with the treasure story. As a child he always wanted to find the treasure but he couldn't decipher the secret message leading to exact location. As he grew up, he became busy with his studies and has gradually forgotten about the treasure map.
A decade after:
Dasa just graduated and his ambition is to find a great job in the city. Soon, his dreams crashed as he realized that education in Wazu is nowhere close to the education in the city and eventually fails to find his dream job. Frustrated and depressed after multiple attempts, he gets back to Wazu for peace of mind.
He comes home and tries to sleep but his mind constantly chatters about his failed job trials. Unable to fall asleep and not wishing to feel dejected, Dasa starts cleaning his room as an attempt to keep himself distracted. The place was dirty as it has been over 3 months since anyone last dusted it. While brushing off the dust, he finds that treasure map which he was obsessed with as a child.
Holding onto the map, he slowly lies down on his bed smiling as he looks at it, reminiscing all of his grandfather's stories. Dasa looks at that secret message which he couldn't interpret when he was 8. He gives it a try and finally manages to decode the exact location of the treasure.
Filled with happiness, he eagerly grabs his jacket and sets forth for his treasure hunt. Shortly, he realizes that it's not just one map but a series of maps each leading to the location of the next map. He was on an adventure crafted by his grandfather. Its an interesting and exciting experience for Dasa. After a week, he gathers all the 4 maps and manages to unravel the precise location of the treasure.
Coincidentally, the map led Dasa to the same grave that the men of Limbo used as a place to hide their treasure under.
