There was a hard flick on my forehead, waking me from my peaceful slumber. I grumbled a 'go away' and sunk under the covers more.
"You're such a pain in the morning," a familiar voice murmured.
"Better get used to it, bud." I rolled over and covered my eyes when I caught glimpse of Ryder's face. "Oh, gosh! Why am I seeing such ugliness this early in the day?!"
He smacked my leg. "It's ten-thirty, you lunatic."
"My point exactly!" He grabbed the covers and I glared at him from the corner of my eye. "You take my sheets and I will stab you."
"Guess I'm not that scared."
He yanked my covers off and rolled them in a ball with a triumphant smirk. I sat up cross-legged, feeling the cool air brush my legs. "That's just cruel, man."
He ignored me. "Come on. Let's get moving."
"Why are you so persistent?" I stretched out my arms, yawning.
"Because we have to go shopping."
I pinned him with an exasperated scowl. "I hate shopping."
"I know you do, but this is important. You can't be my fiancée without an engagement ring," Ryder wiggled his eyebrows.
I yawned again, feeling the sweet presence of sleep drawing nearer. "Why don't you just pick something out? You know what I like."
"It won't be the same," he retorted. "I need your say in this matter."
We had a staring argument, me with a blank face and him with a 'you know I'm right.' I finally gave in, knowing that he indeed have a point. With him being a Dallas, there'll be questions asked about him being in a jewelry store, looking at engagement rings, alone.
"Fine," I sighed getting out of my comfy bed.
"I'm taking you out for brunch," Ryder pinched my waist as I passed him.
My stomach growled in response. I sent him a happy smile. I shut myself in my walk-in closet and pull on a pair of dark skinny jeans, a random graphic tee, and my leather jacket. I pinned my hair up in a braided bun. After doing that, I left the closet and went straight to the bathroom.
"Can you get my Adidas?" I called out, wetting my toothbrush and spreading the toothpaste on it.
"Yeah!"
I finished brushing my teeth and spit the remnants out. I looked up and saw Ryder leaning against the doorframe, watching me in the mirror. He had a soft smile on his face.
"Thank you again," he said.
I turned around, walking over and hugging him. "You're welcome." I tilted my chin and flicked him on the nose. "Alright, let's get moving."
We left my apartment after I slid on my Adidas high tops, and I smirked when I saw the sleek black Lamborghini parked out in the front.
"Hand them over," I held out my hand and beckoned for the keys.
"Who said you'd be driving today?"
I pouted. "But-"
"Hey, she's my baby. You're lucky I agreed at all," Ryder knocked me on the arm and headed towards the driver's seat.
I blew out an annoyed breath and got in the passenger's side, strapping in. He turned the car on, the engine roaring to life, and switched radio stations before driving off. I leaned back in the leather seats, glancing out the window to watch passing vehicles and pedestrians. I gritted my teeth together when Ryder began poking my arm and leg, trying to get my attention. Poking was something I found extremely irritating and he knew that.
