People like to tell stories of fantasized mythological beings, turning them into a romanticized version of themselves. They turn them into popular shows and books, hoping to turn them into a kinder version of what they really are...monsters. I had started my training early against these creatures who everyone thought wasn't real. Since I was old enough to wield a weapon, my parents had taught me how to kill them.
I had been doing a right good job at it too, my body count was well over three hundred and growing every time I joined a hunt. My last hunt however, I had made a critical mistake which had gotten me bit by a werewolf. I had been following a lead from a friend of mine about a pack of wolves who had taken up residence in a small town in Kentucky, they were killing locals and making a mess. Someone had paid decently to have the entire pack killed.
It took me about a week to locate the pack's headquarters. I had watched the place, formulated a plan, and lay in wait to execute it. I knew the ins and outs of the place. I thought I had prepared myself for everything. The plan had been to wait until their alpha had left to hunt. A wolf pack was weaker without the alpha around. So I had waited until he had disappeared and then made my move. I snuck in through a small abandoned buildings where I had seen them bring their prey, making sure to mask my scent as I went. It was a blood moon celebration night, all the wolves were preparing a large bonfire in the center of the compound. The celebration made me sick, it was a celebration of murder!
Every blood moon the werewolves would get together and hunt, killing everything they could, be it local townspeople or animals. I intended to stop them before they even got to see the blood moon.
I had thought as I made my way to the bonfire that I'd have about an hour before the alpha returned. He normally took a little longer but I wasn't being generous about the time. I also hadn't realized exactly what I was walking into.
My father had always praised me on my genius, so why I hadn't seen this coming was so frustrating to me after the fact. I strolled in feeling untouchable with my silver bullets and knives. Ready to kill every single one of them. I managed to kill twenty three wolves before the alpha showed back up. I was sure it hadn't been over fifteen minutes, and my wrist watch confirmed this. Behind the alpha stood someone who I had known since childhood, the one who had gotten me this job in the first place. I could feel my blood run cold as he smiled at me and walked my way.
"Fianna, you're much faster than I had anticipated. Twenty three already, very talented." He smiled again, "You know that your father would be so proud of you. Sadly for you however, you should have brought backup."
"Judas, what is going on and what are you talking about?" I said through clenched teeth.
He nodded his head in my direction and two wolves came up and grabbed me, holding me in place so that I couldn't move.
"I'm simply sending your dear old dad a message! Everyone is tired of his lies and torture. I hate to do this to you, but it's the only thing that I know to do that would not only hurt him but give him the loudest message we possibly can." Judas said as he stopped in front of me.
The pack alpha came to stand beside him, looming over me angrily.
Judas inclined his head and spoke again, "Go ahead, King. But make it quick, I don't want her suffering because this isn't her fault!"
With that being said the alpha grabbed my shoulders firmly, I could see his canines elongate and before I could even scream they were buried in my neck.
I dont remember passing out, but I woke up in a small clearing out in the woods somewhere far from where I had been. My clothes were soaking wet and bloody, and I had no weapons on me.
I hadn't been this scared in a very long time, and the incoming war that I knew was about to happen with my parents made me want to curl into a ball and cry.
I didn't understand why Judas had done what he did, but I knew one thing, he would pay.
