(A/N I have already gotten a couple chapters written so yeah, this is great! I obviously might have giant pauses because I am very inconsistent when it comes to writing outside of NaNoWriMo but here you go! I hope you appreciate and like it! Welcome to the beginning of my fluffy NKSK oneshot collection!)
It had started out as a normal day for the two brothers, very slow and lazily. The both were awake and in their shared living room, they had lived together after they had settled their fighting. It was much nicer than they ever imagined, living together again.
There were still fights, quarrels from petty things that caused the house to grow cold and silent. The two would ignore each other until one finally broke into apologies, this would cause the other to apologize as well, then they would both laugh at their childishness and the house would light up with the color and warmth of their relationship again.
Currently, it was early morning. The very crack of dawn where only the slightest sliver of the golden orange light of the sun painted the lands. The two countries were laying in the living room together, closest as they could be and both very happy of their progress together. They laid together on the couch, both were awake but neither of them spoke. They silently stared out the window as the sun rose, quietly enjoying each other's company and warmth.
A half hour passed in the still silence, the wind creaking their house slightly, the sun was now almost fully up and people were starting to go about their day.
Like any good Sunday morning, many people were enjoying their weekend staying in, only a few people traveled through the streets and sidewalks to do chores or work out. There was something very calming to the both of the brothers, watching their world start to slowly wake up through the limited view of their window.
A couple more minutes passed before South spoke up, still holding onto the blue country like an anchor, "We should go and do something today." The one being held hummed, "What would we do?" A couple moments passed as South thought, "I don't know, just walk around and hang out. We could go shopping and go to the fair!" South's drowsy voice hitched up as he got excited by the idea of the fair.
North may have wanted to lay down for the day, but he loved his brother too much to let him down, and he had to admit that it did sound cute how excited South was. So, even though he was feeling very lazy, he huffed and started to slowly stretch, "Finneee," his voice strained with the stretch but kept a whine in his voice.
South laughed at that, his chest hitting North's back with suppressed extra giggles. When North started to pull himself up, trying to get out from under South's arms, South laughed more, "no I want you to stay with me!" The Communist half did not seem to get the joking tone, he stuttered, "But you wanted us to go out, we can't get ready to leave if we're stuck on the couch." South replied merely with a tightening of his grip on North's body, pulling him back to the warm couch.
North sighed exasperatedly, resigning to a few more seconds in the comfortable arrangement. He knew that he would fall back asleep if he didn't get up soon though, then it'd be South's fault that they didn't leave the house.
North prepped himself to leave the warmth behind, he grabbed one of his brother's arms which were around him and kissed it before pulling away and off the couch. When he looked back at the couch, his brother's arms were bent towards his face which had a slight blush on it. The Northern counterpart smiled before leaving to get ready. South laid there for a second longer before taking a deep inhale and getting up himself to get ready.
They were done after just a couple of minutes, dressed for the occasion of going out for the day. South assured North that it would be fun, he would make sure of it. North's face was monotone like usual, but he hummed and looked away slightly, this made the taller country giggle. The first part of the quickly-made agenda was to walk through the marketplace. Fresh produce and baked goods made the air smell enticingly sweet. Even North had to admit that he was starting to get hungry just seeing and smelling the sweet and savory delights. South was the guide for this day, he had quickly grabbed a basket and a lot of money to spend for the entire day, he was determined to make it a day to remember.
He walked with his brother-date throughout the market, excitedly pointing out certain products that caught his attention. When they were in the middle of the market, at the point where the food products stopped and the manmade goods started, the basket South carried held some bread, honey, a handful of apples, and some blueberries. South admittedly did not need the honey since neither of them were giant fans of it, but the decoration looked great and it did look enticing, so he bought it on a whim.
As they started to stroll through the manmade products, North scanned through some of the necklaces and shirts, woodwork and paintings and other such decoration. South, used to his brother's silent observation, chatted away while pulling him along. The brighter country 'oo'd and 'ah'd at the various trinket, sometimes dragging them both closer to a stall to look or buy something. To a random outsider, it might've seemed like North had no interest and was just being dragged along, but he was paying attention and South knew that.
Something caught North's eye and a barely noticeable change spread across his features he made sure South didn't see it though.
"Hey, can we split up for maybe 10 minutes? We can look around faster." South thought for a moment before his face brightened again, "yeah that's he great! There were so many stalls that I missed and I NEED to go look at them!" In fact, the said country didn't even wait for a reply, instead he immediately started to walk to previous stalls. North stared for a moment, seeing his brother hum along as he started to scan the previous stalls.
Once South was out of sight, going on to look at some stand or the other, North walked over to the stand that had caught his attention. It was a jewelry stand that seemed like any other, but one part of it caught his eye. The stall owner straightened up as they saw a new customer walk over, a normal seller smile on their face.
He talked with the owner for a minute before pointing at the item he had seen, you see North had brought his own money as well. North wanted to at least get something for his boyfriend. It was honestly still weird thinking and calling him that, but they've been dating for a couple months now.
He paid for the item and hid it in one of his jacket pockets. Then he scanned some more stalls before standing back and waiting for the taller country to come back, which actually didn't take long at all.
South chatted about more of his purchases, eyes basically glittering with enthusiasm. They walked to the next place on the list, which was the mall. The began their mall adventure by going through any store that caught their attention. This was where North started to unravel his usual public sternness; he pointed to a couple of stores that caught his eye and spent a considerable time at a bookstore, flipping through pages with a soft smile on his face.
When it hit noon, North had allowed the small smile to continue on his face. South was really enjoying the trip and was very happy to see North enjoying himself too.
The two went to the food court for lunch. Sure it may be greasy, unhealthy, and largely overpriced, but isn't that what a trip to the mall supposed to be like? The two got their food and sat at a table, South still not exerting all of the topics of conversation he could talk about. The shorter country nodded along and hummed acknowledgement while eating.
After the food court, the two explored the long polished floors for a while longer. They finally stopped when the basket was getting a little overcrowded with item. The poor wicker holding additional clothes, books, video games, and more small knickknacks and toys the two had found.
Then it was time for the spotlight of the day, South was waiting impatiently for the time. They started to walk to the fair, North taking the basket from South and carrying it the rest of the trip. The sunset came too early for either of them, both having fun on rides and carnival games.
Even if some were rigged, it was still fun trying them all. South was better than North at most of them except for the Bottle Ring Toss. South never could understand how North could always win almost every single time.
After playing for awhile longer, they got more unhealthy food. Hotdogs were their dinner and they bought cotton candy for afterwards.
As they ate their hotdogs, they watched the sun slip under the horizon. Neither of them talked during this time, both just enjoying the end of the day like how they enjoyed the beginning of their day.
Once they were both done with the food, besides the cotton candy, South seemed to have an idea as the beginnings of night started to set in.
He pulled the other towards the Ferris wheel, the main attraction of any well-respected faire or carnival. They waited in line and soon got onboard, more people were put into other cars and then the ride started. They sat together, North looking out the window as the ground slowly furthered itself away from them, South looking at North's content face.
South looked out the window far from him and was dazzled by the sky. As they were nearing the top of Ferris wheel, the sky lit up with stars and the moon shone her full grace. South sprung up and ran towards the window to look out more, drawing North's attention as he was snapped back to reality.
He walked over and looked out the window, the sight of the faire lights were great but the sky never ceased to amaze the country. He looked out alongside South, both quiet in awe. Then, a rare occasion, North broke the silence, "So, I found something for you."
South's face lit up as he looked over to his brother, his boyfriend. "What? When did you have time to get me something?" He tried to sound casual but his feeling were obvious through his facial expression, he was already absolutely smitten with the man standing right next to him.
"Well, I got it while we were at the marketplace. When we split up." North fumbled over his words as he reached into his jacket pocket to pull out the item. "Oh, you didn't have to—" South was stopped when he saw the item.
Dangling from North's hand was a necklace, it was very beautiful and expertly crafted. The chain was like shining silver but the pendant hanging off of it was the real thing that took his voice away. The pendant was shaped like a tree, each branch studded at the end with a jewel of some sort, hanging off the bottom of the tree was a small star that dazzled like it was made from them, and then etched onto the tree was a heart. The etching was near the roots, like the love was strong and would never fall.
South felt like he could cry at any given second, he jumped to hug his boyfriend and nearly made him fall backward. "Hey come on, is that a bad reaction or good?" North wasn't one to make jokes but he felt like he had to from the onslaught of emotions and actions. South pulled back and laughed, "it's so good obviously!" They both giggled and look at each other, they were both blushing wildly.
"Put it on! Put it on!" South said excitedly, trying the fan the heat off his face while simultaneously trying to dry the tears threatening to break free. North made no attempt to calm his face before he went over to put the necklace on the currently freaking out South.
After he linked the two parts of the necklace together, he walked around to see the finished look. South was also looking down and holding the necklace tenderly, they really couldn't stop themselves from being flustered idiots sometimes.
Their car was at the very top now, time seemed to slow down as they looked at each other happily. South decided to pay the loving act forward, it was the perfect time to do so. He let go of the necklace and let it fall to his chest as he grabbed North's hands.
Both of their faces flushed red when they realized what was happening, but South wouldn't turn back. North's mind started to halt as South leaned forward, ever so slowly it seemed. Then his brain caught up with him and North leaned closer to meet South halfway.
The kiss was slow and sweet, they both had the taste of sweet cotton candy on them. The kiss was also electrifying and stunning, it was like their lips were on fire. They didn't care if it was cliche, it felt like fireworks had gone off inside of them. They had already closed their eyes and North had grabbed ahold of South's hands as well.
Sure the two had kissed before, but somehow this felt new. It felt different and riveting, like everything had been put in place for this moment. It felt like too soon when they had pulled away, both staring into each other's eyes afterward. Staring like it was something new, like something had changed. There was no embarrassment afterward like there was before, just sweet and loving gazes and heated up faces.
The rest of the ride was spent with the two holding hands while sitting beside each other. South rested his head on North's shoulder and moved the necklace around his finger while North was content at just watching the man he truly loved, in front of the beautiful sky that continued out the window. It truly did feel like something changed, and yet it felt like nothing changed at all. Something did though, they broke down the remaining barriers that still hung between them, both showing vulnerability and love; breaking down the rest of what remained of their "brotherhood", changing it into a full relationship. They left the Ferris wheel and faire while holding hands, continuing that action all the way home. It was a good day, it was fun. The most important thing though, was that they spent it together and saw their love grow for each other. It was a day that they would surely remember for the rest of their long lives.North kissed his boyfriend's cheek as they walked home.
