Hello! This is a little story to help you out with making characters. Bad examples are very good ways to teach, so this is book 1 of my How To NOT series. Here I will create a character and we'll follow her adventures as a terrible Creepypasta oc! Enjoy.

Well, let me start off by saying I definitely do not believe in 2 things about Creepypastas.

1. Calling them ocs. It's fine if you do, but to me, at least, Creepypastas are a genre and not a fandom.

2. That the Slender Mansion is healthy for Creepypastas. The way I see it, bringing characters together in the same universe only gives them personalities they don't have and limits creativity. Because of that now everyone wants to bang D list Joker or Sentient Mannequin and now we have dozens of carbon copies of the same character.

And that's what we're here to talk about today, actually. But for the sake of...

example

We will pretend there is NO PROBLEM with the points I mentioned above. Now, onto the character we will make today! First off, the most important point in any Creepypasta is the name. I know it sounds odd, but there's so much you can do with a name! It could hold sentimental value, explain part of a culture, cleverly slip in personality traits, and even serve as as foreshadowing!

Foreshadowing: be a warning or indication of (a future event).

So with all that in mind...

let's call her Mary.

Mary Suter.

That works.

Now! Onto her looks! For looks, this can also be a good telltale of how your character is. Are they shy? Baggier clothes could be the way to go with long hair that always covers their face. Or how about eccentric? Don't be afraid to go all out with the colors or give them a wacky hair color. For our lovely lady here, we could give her practical clothing that's darkly colored to blend in with the night time. We could also give her short hair that's up in a hairstyle in order to be less likely to leave hairs behind when she's well... doing what all those Creepypasta ocs do (Ugh it makes me wince whenever I type that). And maybe we could have something covering her face.

Or, we could scratch all logic and practicality and show off her goth, terribly misunderstood and tormented soul atop a sexy body that'll make anyone fall in love immediately or become jealous of how pretty she is.

Yeah. Let's do that.

So her outfit will be a black, cut up tank top showing off the Proxy symbol on her midriff (If you don't know what that is, look it up. :( ) and she'll have a black denim skirt. But to spice it up she'll have a belt loosely strapped onto the skirt. She'll also have knee high black socks and black Doc Martins because she like, cannot wear heels lol. Now, onto the actual looks itself.

Like I said, looks express a lot about someone's personality. I provided examples above. And there's only one way to show off Mary's damaged and tormented soul from her backstory (which we're gonna get into don't you worry) By making it as er...interesting... as possible!

So! She's going to have pale skin because, like, I'm white and Mary totally isn't a self insert or anything but- anyway... she's also going to have loads of luscious black hair with a white streak because screw practicality. Ah! But don't worry! It's in a ponytail, so none of it will fall out anywhere. Mhm. Her eyes are red because haha, I can't have black as the only color! She was born with it (don't question it). Hm... what else... eh, can't come up with anything like birthmarks or imperfections because why would I add that to a character? OH WAIT! She's got big boobs. Idk why. Just thought it'd fit.

Alright! We have our template to place whatever personality traits and backstory we want on her.

See you guys in the next part, where we talk about why people should put more than 3 seconds of effort into their character's personality.

Toodles until then!!
