Poem: Empty Space

My mind is an empty canvas
My heart open to the whole wide world
My thoughts are books
In the library on campus
My faith is a flag unfurled

Daunted though I may be at times
Damned to the corner of misdeeds
Limited to silly jaded rhymes
Stuck counting prayer beads

The sky above presents itself
In three interesting modes
Overcast or blue in brilliant health
Or azure mixed with clouded loads

Since I trust you not to backstab
I widen my soul to you a bit more
Sharing the stories both vivid and drab
Entertaining with tales of lore

When the last chapter's last page turns
And the allotted time draws to a close
May the force of love be what burns
And may sincerity be more than a pose
