Marinette kicked a rock as she shivered in the cold rain. Again she had to walk back home with such a negative feeling inside of her, thinking about what tomorrow could possibly bring her. Obviously today hadn't went so well, though she did think it went interesting. Today was different from every other days, it was different from those days new students joined the school. Those new students joined hands with Chloe to teach her a lesson, but today the new student had stood up for her.
Then suddenly she realized that the cold rain wasn't hitting her anymore. She looked up only to see an umbrella above her, and she looked beside her, only to see Adrien walking quietly. He gave her a smile but she only looked away, trying to give him a hint that she didn't want him around. Not now, not ever.
"It's cold today. You'll catch a cold if you walk in the rain for too long," He said, but still, she didn't say anything. Why was he even trying so hard? Hadn't he heard the warnings from the other students to keep away from her? Why hadn't he listened? "Listen," Adrien suddenly continued, "I'm not a bad guy, okay? I'm not a bad person. It may be hard for you to trust people, but I just want you to know that those people are wrong and you're not alone. I'm here if you ever need me."
That was just the thing with new people, now wasn't it? They would think they understood when they really didn't. They would butt into your life, think they're helping you when they're just making things worse. Why didn't Adrien understand that it was better if he just left her alone? It wasn't the fact that she didn't like him, nor trust him. It was just the fact that she didn't want to make a friend only for her to be leaving that friend in 15 days. Adrien didn't know what was coming, but hopefully he would realize he was wasting his time before the 15th day came.
"So you're not going to talk? Okay, but I'm still going to hold this umbrella above you," Adrien smiled again as he walked closer to her, both of them underneath the umbrella. "And I'm going to be like this until we reach your place."
And that's how it went. Adrien held the umbrella up for the both of them, Marinette didn't say anything to chase him away, so he stayed. They reached the bakery, and Marinette turned around to bid him goodbye. "Thank you," She spoke so low that she was sure Adrien wouldn't be able to hear her, but Adrien placed a hand on her shoulder with a small smile.
"It's no problem, Marinette. I'm always happy to help."
Marinette tried hard not to smile. Looking behind Adrien made it easy for her, because behind Adrien was a white limo, parked. The window rolled down and Chloe's face was shown. The blonde sent Marinette a glare, making Marinette quickly turn around to head inside her bakery. Adrien looked a little surprised, and that's when he turned around.
"Hey, Adrien," Chloe sent him a wink and motioned for him to come over. "It's pouring outside. Why don't you get in and we'll take you home."
"It's fine, I'll walk."
"You couldn't possibly want to walk in this weather. Come on, just this once. Get in," Chloe pouted. "I'm just trying to be nice, Adrien. What's so bad about being nice?"
Adrien seemed to grumble, but started heading towards the limo. The door opened and he stepped inside. He waved at Marinette, who was still standing there, but Marinette ignored him and just headed inside. He then put his closed umbrella beside him and looked down at his feet.
"Adrien, it's okay. I guess Marinette is just so used to being alone that she doesn't want to consider you as a friend. Honestly, like I said before, don't waste your time on her!" Chloe said again, getting Adrien to clench his hands into fists. Chloe looked down at his clenched fists and backed away, her back pressing against the seat. "I'm sorry, but I honestly don't see why you care about her so much."
"Chloe, can I ask you a question?"
Chloe's heart fluttered and she cleared her throat before looking back at him confidently. "Sure. What is it? I can answer anything."
"How did it start?"
Chloe frowned. She hadn't exactly expected that question. Her imagination was thinking Adrien would ask her out, her negative side was believing that he was just going to ask about Marinette, and her position side was trying to agree with her imagination. "What's that supposed to mean?" Maybe getting Adrien in the limo was a horrible idea. Maybe Adrien wasn't really meant for her, and she should just give up on him. Adrien was obviously not letting this go, he was soon going to end up like Marinette, and when that happened, she wouldn't be there to help him. No one would.
"Marinette? How did people start to hate her? Did she do anything wrong?" Adrien made his question more clearer and waited for Chloe to answer. Chloe looked around the moving limo, as if that was going to help her get a good enough answer. Then she looked back at Adrien, who had been patiently waiting.
"Well, the first time Marinette came to the school, I didn't really know her, of course. All I knew was that she was the daughter of the famous baker. But I guess she knew me, because the hatred she had for me when we first met was just unbelievable. I don't know what I ever did to her, but she started kicking the sides of my limo like a madwoman. I tried to calm her down, but she just kept spouting out insults at my face, and I was humiliated because a lot of people had come to watch. Finally I got her calmed down, and it turns out that the only reason why she hated me was because of my mother. She and my mother weren't really on good terms, due to the fact that the last two years, she entered this competition but my mother ended up humiliating her in front of everyone. I guess she thought that all Bourgeois' were cruel from then on, so I started to stay away from her. I admit, I did start spreading rumours about her on that day, but I was just too mad to even think before I did it. I tried to stop the rumours after realizing the mistake I'd made, but by then I was already too late. People started hating Marinette from then on.
"I still tried to help Marinette then. I tried becoming her friend, tried to show people that none of those rumours were true, but Marinette didn't let me. Instead she just pushed me off. She started doing everything she could to make me look like a bad person, and from then, I started hating her-"
"So then you started bullying her, tormenting her everyday. You started making her believe that you really were that kind of a person," Adrien interrupted, giving her a look as if to say that he didn't believe a single word she had just said. Chloe was surprised, shocked even. Adrien didn't believe her. Adrien didn't know a thing about Marinette, he was just a new student, but he was still on that girl's side no matter what Chloe told him. It was like Marinette had possessed him or something. And to think he'd actually be a cool guy, someone she could hang around with, be friends with and hopefully the more they spent time together, the more they would start to like each other as more than friends. But Adrien was obviously not interested.
Chloe looked to her side with a bitter smile. "You know what, Adrien? Just forget it, but when you realize I'm right, don't ever come back to me!" She looked out the window in anger. "We're here. You can leave my limo now!"
Chloe watched him go. He ran towards his mansion with his umbrella without looking back, without any goodbyes, without doing anything. Chloe screamed out in frustration and stomped her foot. Adrien was going to regret his decision. He was going to, she just knew it! And she was going to make it happen. Very, very soon!
