Poem: The Turn Around

I can only do what I can
The inner, the near
Externalities aren't under my command
But this shouldn't drive me to fear

For I am a prepper, a readier
Not a stuck-in-the-mudder
Not lulling myself to sleep
Or forgetting my bread and butter

By living in a stupor
Like a walking dead
Zombies on the boardwalk
Excuses messing with my head

There is so much I control
But it could be more
If I exercise myself, use my wits
Ready and able when I see that door

Ready to plunge through that
Newly opened door . . .
