Orange Cloaks and Bloody Daggers. It was Nate's favorite book. He would always read it after he got home after being beaten by those who blamed him for what his parents did.

His mentor's, and his, favorite quote came from that book.

"I dreamed of a better life, and it was given to me. Just not in the way I expected..." Both he and his mentor lived by that quote.

He was reading it when he heard something. A knock at his door. He opened it, expecting it to be his mentor.

"C-Captain, wh-what can I do for you?" Nate asked. Captain Roland was one of the three people here that treated Nate like normal.

"Nothing good...He's gone, I'm sorry," Roland replied.

"G-Gone? Wha-No! He can't be! He can't be..." Nate cried. Roland hugged Nate, letting Nate cry into his shirt.

"I'm sorry. We tried to find him. The only thing we could find...well, it...it was his arm," Roland told the boy, "His funeral is in a few days. You'll be living with me, well, if you want."

Nate nodded, "Yes. Please. I don't...I don't want to go back there."

"You won't, Nate, you never will have to go back to that horrid place," Roland promised him.

'Of course,' Nate thought, 'Promises were made to be broken.'

Roland had to go somewhere and he wouldn't be back for a few days. So, that meant that Nate had to hide in the house so no one would beat him.

Unfortunately, he was running out of groceries.
Roland had been forgetful of restocking.

The phone rang. He picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hi, this is Nate, Roland's Godson, right? Unfortunately, Roland went MIA. I'm sorry," Nate dropped the phone.

'Liars...They were liars!' Nate cried.

"I'm here to register for the army," Nate told the secretary. They handed him a clipboard. He took it.

"Well, hello, Nate. I guess that you and I had the same idea," Andria exclaimed. Nate looked up and let out a short laugh.

"Yeah. They won't allow women to join, though. You're gonna have to become a nurse," Nate told her. She scoffed.

"It is literally the 21st century on Earth. Why the fuck aren't they allowing women to join the fighting up here in Heaven?" She complained.

"Blame Uriel. He's the one in charge. Ever since he's been hunting Lucifer down, he's become obsessed, but we shouldn't be saying anything if we want in," Nate chuckled. She smiled.

"True. See you on the battlefield, one way or another," Andria replied and left.

Andria and Nate were friends since babies, but ever since Nate's parents were banished, Andria's parents tried their best to stop her from seeing her friend.

Nate passed the exams.
He passed the training.
He passed everything.

Today was his first day of fighting. He got his gun, and awaited orders.

He was hoping he'd die. Hoping he'd died bringing back honor to his family's name once again. He hoped.

They were yelling out orders, and other things and whatnot...but Nate was focus on the battle. He kept shooting, not even blinking an eye nor looking away to refill his ammo.

"Sir! We should retreat!" One of the angels shouted to Coronal Adam Txsau.

"No! Keep fighting, men! Go!" Adam commanded. They obeyed. Adam went behind Nate and gripped Nate's shoulder uncomfortably tight, "If we lose this battle, I'll tell them it was your fault, then I'll rape you and let the others have a turn, you got that, traitor scum?"
