December 25, 2016

Hey future Coraa! It's Christmas! You got this book from aunt Anita but your probably looking back on it huh? What year is it? Right now it's 2016! It'll be 2017 soon and I'm excited! This year wasn't one of the best remember? I hope you do. I really miss my friends back in California ya know? I didn't even get to say goodbye. But before I start crying I'll stop because I still haven't eaten. Talk to you later!

I closed the sketchbook and threw it in my closet. It was still kinda empty. We moved in around the middle of August but I still haven't out everything up. I just don't want to forget everything.

I opened my door and heard the chatter from downstairs. I was glad they weren't up here. I went into the kitchen and grabbed a plate and a fork. I wasn't that hungry so I just cut myself a piece of ham. "Can I have some?" I jumped and turned around only to see my sister. Emma is only 3 but she learns quick.

She's already made friends with the neighbor's kid. He's two years older than her or something. They seem to get along though so I'm not complaining.

"Yeah, you want some ham?" I asked her as I grabbed her plate. She shook her head and pointed to the ham. "You... want ham?"

"No!" Walking a little closer she pointed to the ham again. "Turkey!" I smiled and cut her a piece of ham and some turkey. She grabbed the plate and sat down at her 'table' in front of the TV. It was really just the container I kept my Legos in.

I quickly ate my ham and retreated back into my room. It was plain. I hadn't done anything to decorate my room in the 4 months I've been here. I grabbed my phone and opened it. I checked Twitter and then played some games. I was just waiting for a bit before texting my best friend. If we still are. His name is Jack and we've been friends since kindergarten. He has a life but I still wanted to wish him a Merry Christmas. Before the school year ended he had given me his phone number so all I could do was hope he wouldn't think I'm a random person.

Hey Jack, it's been awhile but hopefully you still
remember me.I just wanted to wish you a merry
christmas since I forgot my email. Hope you
have a good Christmas and maybe we can see
each other again one day soon! -Coraa

I stopped myself before I sent it. It's only been 4 months, surely he wouldn't forget about me, right? 4 months of no communication with anybody back in California. 4 months since I 'suddenly' moved. 4 months since school started again. But Jack, Brenda, Alex, and Karol were my best friends. I remember them, so they remember should remember me. I hope so at least.

I sent the message and turned off my phone. Laying on my bed, I sighed and looked up at the ceiling. "Maybe this year will be different."
