Izaya took one last look at the body below. He glared at it for a few seconds and left. He arrived home and sat on the couch, no bothering to turn on the lights. He knew what was coming, just like every other night before. Not long after, he heard his window open. He looked up and saw Yui. "Hello, Izaya," she greeted.

"Hey there, Yu-chan," he greeted back, faking a smile. "What brings you here?"

"I came to say thank you, for finishing off my sister. Also to apologize for the nightmares," she answered as she sat beside him.

"Oh really? That's a surprise."

"Cut it out Izaya, I know that smile is fake."

His smile dropped. She was too good, she knew him too well. "How do you feel?" she asked.

He leaned forward and rested his arms on his legs. "You're right I am lonely. I'm scared of being hurt. I've loved watching others, so I began using it as a defense mechanism."

"I'm scared, Yui. I'm scared to be alone."

Yui looked at him. "Did you really think I wouldn't do something to help you after you've accepted it?"

He turned to meet her gaze. She looked him in the eye and said, "They're having a hot pot party at Shinra's this weekend. You can come, but they have asked you to keep your talking and insults to a minimum. And if you need to say something that might weren't you being the target of someone's anger you'll have to run it by me first."

Izaya was smiling. "I guess making me suffer to help grow and get over problems is payback for everything else I did, huh?"

"You could say so."

He turned to Yui. "I'm tired."

"It's fine. You accepted how you feel and have gotten help, the nightmares won't come," she reassured him.

"Still, can I lay on your lap?"

Yui glared at him again. Depressed or not, he's still Izaya. He laughed again. "C'mon, Yu-chan. Just this once."

She scoffed. "Fine! Just this once."

He smiled that classic grin and laid his head on her lap. He looked up and began stroking her cheek again. Witnessing it going from smooth to scaley. As Yui looked back into his eyes, she saw a swirl of emotions in his eyes. There was happiness, calm, and . . . even love. The so-called god of Ikebukuro could feel love. Who knew?

"Hey Yui, can you stay by my side?"

"Sure. Someone's gotta do it."

After a while, he finally fell into a deep sleep. Yui smiled. She leaned in and kissed his forehead. "Sweet dreams, Izaya."
