One of the things I was confused about when I started witchcraft was sigils. So here I am and I'm going to explain to you everything you need to know about sigils.
1. What exactly is a sigil?
A sigil is a marking or symbol that represents a property. For example; Prosperity
2. Do I have to make my own sigil? Can't I just use someone else's?
No, you cannot use someone else's sigil for your intent. If you do, there will be no power behind the sigil. You must make your own sigil if you intend for the power to be transmittable.
2. What would happen if I messed the spell up? Are there any consequences?
Let's get one thing straight. Sigils are one of the easiest spells to do and one of the first ones beginners should practice. There are no consequences if you mess this spell up.
3. What should I say/write when casting the spell?
This spell is, as I already mentioned, very easy. All you have to do is write down 3 words; "I am ______" The blank is the word you are making the sigil for. For example; "I am prosperous". You don't have to go into much detail, or complicated explanations. It's best to keep the spell straight to the point. Will it still work if it has a complicated explanation? Yes. Now, when making a sigil, it is best to use the phrase "I am...". It makes the message more powerful, and it makes it stronger. Try to avoid phrases like "I want..." or "I need..." to the best of your abilities. These phrases make the spell lose some of its power. So if you want the best results, use the phrase "I am..." and try to keep the message as straightforward as possible. You can also use the phrases "I will..." and "I have...". Also try to avoid phrases with negative contexts such as "I don't..." or "I will not...".
4. How do I create the actual sigil?
The first step in creating the sigil is to find your intent, also referred to as the power words. These are the words you will write down before creating the sigil. For example, "I have self love." Once you have these words written down, you can create the actual symbol. There are multiple ways to create this, but today I'll just be showing you the way I make my sigils. :)
The first thing I do is take away the vowels (A, E, I, O, U). This will leave me with all of the consonants (Everything but A, E, I, O, and U). With the phrase, "I have self love," if I take away the vowels, the remaining message is this: HVSLFLV. Next I cross out repeated consonants. After I do this the message will look like this: HSF.
The next thing I will do is start to create the sigil using the letters that are remaining. Which in this case is HSF. It is ok to break down the letters into pieces if you don't like how they look as a whole. For example, I broke down the F. I also changed the appearance of the S a little. It is still the same squiggle as an S, but elongated. I also like to add in small decorative things just for the appearance of the sigil. Adding these does not effect your spell at all.
After I have finished, my sigil would look something like this:
As you can see, the letters are there, even though some of them are hard to see.
5. The final step - Activating the sigil
Once you have drawn the symbol somewhere, you must activate it for it to work properly. There are many ways to activate a sigil. You could burn them, charge them with other power sources, bake them into food, and more. There is one way, though, that is the easiest and one of the more commonly used ones. This is by making sure that the symbol is entirely visible, and keep your eyes focused on it. Become familiar with the way the symbol looks, and meditate on the power phrase of the symbol. Once your eyes begin to get more comfortable with the sigil, it will look like it is warping. It will become squiggly and start moving. After this, the sigil will fall still again. Once it falls still, that means that the sigil is charged and activated.
Remember, stay safe and keep crafting. Blessings be!
