Fluorescent lights cast shadows across the white sterile room. In the center was a giant glass box, empty except for a gleaming silver table and various machines.
"I need everyone to clear out," a woman with in a white lab coat demanded, as she tied her light brown hair back. She stretched a pair of gloves over her hands and slipped safety glasses over her eyes. Taking a deep breath through the medical mask, she stepped into the glass box. The other people in starch white lab coats stood outside, whispering amongst themselves, their eyes boring into the woman's back.
Her hands shook as she grabbed the test tube filled with a scarily black liquid. It seemed to leach all light from the room, making the test tube seem almost two dimensional. Her trembling hands poured the liquid into various machines, excitement and terror climbing deeper and deeper down her throat with each one. Seconds turned into minutes, which turned into hours.
Until finally, it was done.
Her breath caught in her throat, and she had to fight through the thickness to get her words out. She spun quickly, facing the crowd of scientists outside the door with a mixed expression on her face.
"We found it," the woman rasped.
