I enjoyed the fire. I enjoyed watching it's flames engulf the horizon over the abandoned city that was once New York City. I enjoyed watching it burn down the houses like it took mine. My family, lost to flames. Flames that I now shoot out of my hand. Flames that I breath in everyday.
How did it come to this? I just wanted an ordinary life until the flames claimed me as their own. The flames that spared me but no one else. They couldn't save my family. They didn't want to.
I stood in front of one of the houses. His house. The house that raised those icy cold eyes. Saw them every single year of his life. Watched them burn.
I dropped down to my knees. Tears poured down my cheeks, only to have them steam up.
I waved my arm out in the area, extinguishing the flames. The firefighter suit I wore now was a lie. I don't put out fires. I start them. And today I started the biggest one of all.
My name is Adara, and I just burned New York City.
And I enjoyed it.
