I coughed in the fumes of smoke and ash as I lay there, kneeling in front of the house of Destan.
Destan. Even thinking his name hurt. I could almost feel the ice cold stare of his aqua blue eyes. How they tore holes deep into my heart.
If only he didn't burn with everyone else.
I cried tears of steam for months. The flames never let me cry proper, wet tears. They never wanted to taste the puddles of salt rolling down my cheeks.
They thought Destan was in the way.
Destan, the last one I loved.
My one and only true love.
He was the last Keeper of the water element, and was unable to pass on his legacy.
He was in the way of my fire.
       So the flames burned him.
Burned him in a single touch.

Meanwhile, in New York, the streets flooded with police officers and firefighters that had left earlier hoping to stay alive. They had evacuated the city and hoped for the fire to stop, but it never did. My rage consumed me. The flames consumed me.
They managed to creep upon me in my moment of weakness. One officer tackled me to the ground while another thrust my arms up high and locked handcuffs around my wrists. I thrashed and kicked them off of me and called out to the flames. They melted my handcuffs, spreading across my body until I shifted.
My wings spread out from behind me as I took off, leaving the police officers lying on the ground in piles of ash. The ash flew everywhere, tossed around by the force of my wings.
I opened my mouth, spewing flames across the city, beating my scaly wings. The firemen turned to ash as I flew by, dying to protect the city.
I circled around the city one more, looking at the fires everywhere. I decided to finish what I started.
I beat my wings until I was in Destan's street. I shifted back to my human form, covered in soot from the fires. I cleared the fires in my path until I got to Destan's house. His was the only one I had left untouched.
       I decided to burn it.
