Chapter 1
-Four years later-
I picked up the brown envelope from the counter and slowly opened it hoping it was what I have been waiting for, for the past year. As I pulled out the papers my eyes trailed along until I came down to the signature line and let out a frustrated scream. He did it again!
“He did it again didn’t he?” Allison my friend asked.
“Yep.” I sighed leaning against the counter.
“What are you going to do now, this makes the fourth time?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know.”
She sent me a wicked smile and I knew she had something in mind.
“What?” I asked.
“Well.” She drew out. “You could always go to him.”
“Oh no. I am not going back to that place.” I stated.
She shrugged her shoulders and bit into an apple she picked up from my fruit bowl. “Ok then, good luck explaining to Mason that you can’t marry him because you failed to tell him you are already married.”
I groaned loudly. She was always right. I have to do this or else I’ll never get out of this divorce. Why does all of this have to fall on me anyway? I wish he would have taken care of this already.
After he sent back the papers the first time I thought it was maybe because he was still bitter about it and he wanted some time to deal with everything but after I waited almost a year and sent them back again I knew it was something more. I wander if this is some sort of revenge or something? Maybe he’s still mad about the whole marriage thing and thinks this will make me pay or something.
“Hello? Earth to Peyton?” She said waving her hand in front of my face.
“Oh I’m sorry. What were you saying?” I asked a little ashamed for not listening.
“I said do you even know where he lives? This is address is from his lawyers office.” She said.
I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room to get the magazine off the end table and handed it to her. She took it out of my hand and took a quick glance at it and looked at me in confusion.
“Why did you hand me a Forbes magazine?” She asked.
I rolled my eyes at her and pointed to the caption on the top of the page. “Take a closer look.”
She brought the magazine back up to her face and gasped. “It’s him.”
“Yep.” I sighed.
“You mean you’re married to THE Nathaniel Holbrook?” She asked.
“Of course, how many more do you know?”
She shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know, I just thought the name was a coincidence or something.”
“I wish.” I replied. “It’s going to be hard to get close to him with how famous he has become in his business."
She took a closer look at the article and shook her head. "Nathaniel Holbrook CEO of Holbrook Financial."
"Yeah, that's him." I said nodding my head.
She gave me a confused expression but didn't ask any questions.
“Anyway.” I said taking the magazine from her and opening up the page about him. “I know where he works and lives so now all I have to do is find a way to get to him.”
