"A red rose is my love for you, a white rose is my soul for you, a pink rose is a sweet kiss for you..."

Oh, how he had dreamed of this day!

From the moment he had met you, Val had dreamed of the day that you would finally become his. It had been his most cherished dream, held close to his heart for so, so long...and it had taken so long to get here, so long to tame you...

Hadn't you been a wild thing!

Fighting and screaming, trashing in your chains. You'd refused him so many times, fought him and bit him and screamed at poor Val as he held you and kissed you.

Hadn't it been so hard!

He'd been to the point of misery, fretting and fussing over you. Everyday he had smothered you with love, hoping and praying that if he just loved you hard enough that you would finally, truly love him back.

And you did!

After so long, after so much fighting and fretting, you were so well-behaved. All that wildness went was long gone and hard to find, leaving you docile and sweet.

You allowed yourself to be held.

You kissed him back.

And you loved Val.

Just the thought of such things made his heart race wildly. You loved him! Adored him, cherished him, worshiped him!!

And now you were standing with him once more, swathed in a gown of glorious white as you looked up at him. Golden chains were wrapped all around you, tangled around your waist and wrists, trailing behind you with every step. A single chain was wrapped around your neck. From it dangled a glowing red heart, and the long chain connected to his hand.

A gentle tug brought you forward into the sea of roses.

Red and white and pink petals swayed softly, thorns tugging at your gown as Val took your hand in his. He could not keep himself from smiling as he gazed at you, a warm hand reaching toward your pretty face and forcing you to look at him.

"Darling..." He whispered.

Tears welled up in your eyes, oh, how he hated to see such a thing! How Val hated seeing you so upset!!

Kissing both of your cheeks, Val comforted you so softly.

"Don't cry, darling!" he cooed. "Today is a happy day!"

Poor dear! He knew just what would cheer his poor darling up!

As his beckoning, two of his cupids stepped forward. Together they held a heavy golden box, huge and gleaming, before placing it at Val's feet. You seemed to almost hide behind him, unwilling to look at the box...oh! Were you excited about your present? Did you wish to be surprised? He chuckled softly, almost shaking with excitement as he undid the golden latch.

Oh! Val sighed softly, reaching out to stroke the pretty things as he gazed at him...what a dream come true!!

How lovely they were!

How absolutely perfect!

He picked them up softly, heart thumping and jumping as he did. Holding his creations gently (he certainly wouldn't want to ruffle them anyway), Val commanded you to turn around and close your eyes.

You were shivering.

Hands crept over your bare back, the dress having been cut low just for this. Fingers softly glided down your back, caressing the skin.

"Don't worry about a thing, darling," Val whispered, "it will only hurt for a moment."

Fingers fell away, leaving you in frightening anticipation. Every beat of your heart thudded louder and louder, fear rushing through you like a winter wind.

For a moment, it was silent.

Until a shrill scream ripped through the air.

You fell to your knees as pain suddenly burst within you, hot and searing and terrible. Val's too sweet voice, which now suddenly sounded so far away, whispered softly in your ear as you chocked with pain and horror.

"There, there, darling, don't fret!"

Fire burned down your back in two white hot lines, the scent of burning skin smoking through the once sugary-sweet air. The smell made you gag as Val encouraged you, kissing your neck and begging you to be still, to be good, to be sweet. Nails dug sharply into your thighs, tearing into white silk and soft skin as you gasped between sobs and strangled screams, fighting the urge to vomit.

"There, there!" He cooed. "Almost done, darling."

Blood speckled your dress, red upon white. Like roses...just like the roses...you sobbed so softly, cries of pain and horror slowly fading away.

And, bit by bit, the fire subsided.

He gave you a moment to adjust to it, smiling and kissing you as you whimpered with the pain. Val pulled you up on shaking legs, cooing about how lovely you were, how happy he was, how beautiful this moment was.

"Look, darling!" He gasped happily. "Look how lovely you are!!"

In the silver mirror, you finally got to see what your "surprise" had been.

Wings.

White wings, snowy white and so long they brushed against the rose colored floors. Val nearly squealed in excitement, his own heavy wing wrapping around your shivering form protectively. The weight of them had you stumbling, it would for a while. The thought of you leaning on him had Val grinning, holding you a little tighter.

"Oh, my darling! My angel!!"

He pressed a kiss to your cheek, a big grin on his face as he fretted and fussed all over you.

"My Y/N~"

Val grasped you tightly and turned you about, forcing you to face his army of cupid soldiers. The crowd of winged folk and their own whimpering victims looked on at you, Val smiling down at them as he clutched you tightly.

"Behold!" he cheered. "Y/N! Patron saint of passion...of darlings!"

The solders erupted into cheers, howling and screaming in mad delight. A single tear slipped down your cheek slowly, only to be swept away by Val's lips.

"I love you, my Y/N."

There was absolute madness in that voice but there was joy too. Sick, delirious joy. Knowing full well how upset he would be if you failed to return his affections, you forced yourself to smile sweetly...to say it back.

"I love you too, my Valentine."

"That's how much I love you!!"
