The city can't help you. Every job, every opening, every turn around the corner is a constant reminder of her. The letter from Apex Legends was coming on Thursday of this week, and all you can do is stare at the ceiling, waiting, praying, begging, for the letter to tell you 'you've been accepted.' It would, at the least, give you a way to support your family whilst not be in direct contact of hurt and pain.
You sigh. Why this job? Yes, it paid good, but working as an apex legend escort was dangerous, you could be in direct hit of danger! The bombs, the guns, the Legends! It all screamed Danger!
After thinking over the terms again you realized how crucial this was. Your family needs this money, your father is tired, frail,, sickly, your brother is getting hungry, and you need to make them proud. You,, you can do this,, you can, you can!
You groan as you pull the covers off your chest, beginning to force yourself to wake up. Rolling your legs off the side of the bed, you rub your eyes gently with a yawn. Your room was pitch black, looking over at the clock, it was 4 AM. It was Wednesday morning, meaning you'd get your letter tomorrow. Standing up, you shivered, it was frigid, but you weren't surprised. You didn't have heat in the apartment, you haven't had any for several months now.
"Hello?" Your voice shook as you began to push your words out, it echoed through your small room to the hallways, yet, no response echoed back. Knowing nobody was awake, you tiptoed to your room's lights, flicking them on to peer over at your tired-self in the mirror.
"Ew." looking at yourself in the mirror, you shook your hands through your hair and grabbed the brush lying on your dresser. It was an old, very used brush, but still worked perfectly fine. With brush in hand, you dragged it through your hair until all of the knots and kinks were gone. Toxic thoughts powered your mind at this moment. 'What if the letter rejects me? What will my family do? Where will we live?' You hesitantly leave your room and enter your apartment's only restroom. Turning on the sink, you splash water onto your cheeks and sigh. You could physically see yourself shaking, it was probably time to head back to bed.
~{Time Skip}~
Wednesday afternoon rolls around, by this time, sleeping through the morning has put your thoughts at ease. You bounce out of bed once more, but this time, the clock read 1 PM.
"(Y/N)!" A voice shouted from outside your door followed by a knock, after giving the 'okay' to come in, its your father.
"Hey sweetie, you're finally awake?" He spoke softly with a smile. "You have a visitor."
"A visitor?" Your mind ponders on who, or,, what this so-called 'visitor' could be. After throwing on clean clothes, you leave the comfort of your room to see a strange figure sitting at your dining room table, accompanied by a raven. They spoke with an unfamiliar accent.
"Thursday might've been a bit too late. I apologize." They hand you a letter with an Apex stamp on top. "I'm not aware of the contents of the letter, good luck." The strange, masked person called themselves 'Bloodhound', a familiar name. They then left without another word.
All your deadly thoughts began to rush back into your head as you began to rip open the card to pull out the paper inside.
"Congratulations! You've been accepted into the Apex arena as a personal escort."
The rest of the letter was a blur. You,, you were hired into the arena.. This was it! You looked over at your father, giving him a small nod, followed by a hug.
"I did it, pops!" You broke off the hug to re-read the letter a few more times. You had to meet the legends in a week to move in to,, your own apartment complex,, that was shared by all the other legends..
Not more apartments.... ugh..
