outside the walls~

it was late afternoon and all the cadets were in the cafeteria eating and talking before having to get back to some hard training.

armin, eren, mikasa, and y/n were all sitting at a table talking about what it would be like outside of the protective walls around their village.

"I bet if there weren't so many titans around it would be so beautiful!" armin exclaimed looking up at the ceiling all dreamy-eyed.

y/n and eren laughed at him while mikasa continued to just eat her food.

"I bet I could kill every single titan and make the outside look beautiful. That way we wouldn't have to fight for our survival and we could finally live in peace!" eren said poking at his food.

y/n nodded her head in agreement and looked at mikasa beside her. she nudged the quiet and reserved girl who was more focused on her food then the conversation.

"What about you mikasa? What do you think it's like out there?" y/n asked which made eren and armin cock their heads in the two girls direction.

mikasa looked at the three who were staring at her waiting for an answer.

"I don't really care what it's like. As long as I fulfill my duty in the survey corp while keeping eren safe I could care less wether it's pretty or destroyed." the girl said while looking down at her food, no emotion on her face.

the three looked at each other worry on their face. they ignored it since this was kind of normal for her and let her eat.

A little while later and all the cadets were done training for the day. The girls went to their respective rooms and same went for the boys, minus two people.

Armin and y/n were still out and about just walking and talking about many things. Mostly going back to the conversation they had in the cafeteria.

y/n always found the outside world fascinating and always wanted to go out there and experience herself but she knew she couldn't. She always found books about the world and what it was like in her mother's room and always read them when she didn't have anything else to do. she drew many pictures of what she thought it would be like, beautiful luscious green trees and grass, small simple houses with happy and content family's living in them, and smooth clear blue rivers filled with many beautiful fish and shells. She imagined a place where no wrong could be done and everyone was happy. The only problem with that vision is that she knew it wasn't true. Even though she hadn't been outside the walls she knew titans had destroyed anything beautiful in sight. All the trees no longer green with health and instead dull in color and looking sorrow, houses broken from the foundation up to the roof with families abandoning the homes or either killed at sight, and the beautiful blue rivers no longer blue but colored faint red of the blood of many animals and humans. This was the hard reality of the life outside the walls. Still her and armin love to imagine a place filled with happiness and bright futures.

armin has always wanted to live happy in a world like that more specifically with y/n. Because she shared the same interest as him it was easy for him to fall for her and the other way around.

Neither of them knew their feelings towards each other since both were so oblivious to these things but armin wanted to change that.

y/n and him were walking around where they usually ran laps talking about their favorite things to do, favorite foods and other small things like that.

"hey y/n, if life outside these walls were as calm and sweet as we imagine them to be would you ever start a family there?" armin asked the girl with a slight blush on his face.

y/n looked at him and cocked her head.

"Yes I would, even though life out there isn't all that beautiful like we would want it to be if we were to expand how we live now I would still love to start a family and have my house with a loving husband and cute children." She smiles at him which made armin's heart beat faster and his face get redder.

he knew he wouldn't possibly be able to hide his feelings longer so he figured now was the time.

he grabbed her wrist and stopped walking all while looking at the ground.

y/n looked at him in confusion wondering if he was ok or if something just came across his mind.

"H-hey armin are you alright? What's wrong?" She got closer to him to look at his face but she stopped when she noticed him smiling.

his smile was the one thing that could make her feel better in any situation. His smile was so contagious all you had to do was look at it for a second and you heart would be filled with warmth and happiness. she loved to see him smile and often made him do it when he was sad or when she was sad.

"I-I want to start a family too, one day. The thing is though..." he paused and looked at her his face red and his eyes averted from her gaze.

she smiled at what she could see in front of her. He was so adorable and precious to her all she could do was hold his hand and give him a quick kiss on his cheek.

armin, shocked from what just happened quickly looked up at her and opened his mouth in shock.

y/n giggled at his reaction and looked him in the eyes.

"I want to start a family with you to armin, one day, but let's wait until we can actually settle and not worry about titans coming for our toes every second of the day." She smiled at him still holding his hand which made armin very happy.

She actually felt the same towards him. Out of pure excitement he grabbed y/n's cheeks and kissed her on the lips. y/n was shocked at first but kissed back. When they both broke apart the put their foreheads together and smiled at each other.

"y/n... I love you, with all my heart!" Armin exclaimed as he gripped her hands tighter as if she would just slip away from his grip.

"I love you to armin." she squeezed his hands back and they stayed like that for a while before heading to bed and dreaming of a new world.

where it was peaceful and full of luscious green trees and grass, smooth clear blue waters, and a small comfortable house with the happiest family armin and y/n would be proud of and love with every bone and muscle in their body.
