Chapter 6

Ryan POV

I was outside waiting for this Max kid to come out of Mrs. Holden’s room. I hear Mrs. Holden call Max, name. He comes out of the classroom and stops dead and his track. Max looks up at the ceiling.

Did he not like me, already he looked like he didn’t want to be here. I cleared my throat. I gave him an amused look, when I really want to ask him if he didn’t want me to escort me.

“So umm…are you going to escort me to the office or do I walk by myself” I hear him ask.

I shake my head clearing the thoughts that were going through my head.

“Yea I…umm…was told to escort you there personal.” I say. I mentally palm myself, why am I stuttering, this is not me at all. 

He shake his head up and down and understanding, and we start walking toward the office.

I wanted to make conversation, trying to get to know the kid, for some weird reason, I wanted to get to know this student

“So you are new to this school huh.”  I asked

“Yeah, I moved from Kansas I had attended Patrick Henry High school.

I heard bad rumors about that school, the students there fight a lot and there is supposed to be a really good fighter there, only lost his first fight.

 “So far, how do you like Texas?”

 “To be honest with you I thought there was going to be tumbleweeds, kids riding horses to school, and a country accent, but so far I haven’t seen that around, so yeah I like it here.”

 I bust out laughing, I heard something like that, people who don’t live in Texas, think that we ride horses to school, this kid is so funny. “Yeah I heard something like that, people who don’t live in Texas thinks that we do that here, but I guaranteed were all just like you. That’s good that you like it here, you know if somebody haven’t already, I can show you around the school.” I rubbed the back of my neck, which I only do when I’m nervous.

 “I would like that, but…”

 But there was a but does that mean it’s a no. Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I put myself out like that.

 “…somebody already showed me around this morning. Sorry but thanks.” And there it is ladies and gentlemen the reject there I was trying to avoid. Ugh I feel like a fool for asking him, he probably thinks I’m weird. But why I am I worry about something as trifling as this. I’m Ryan quarterback of the football team, I don’t get depressed over something as simple as a no.

 “But I haven’t gotten shown around the city yet and I do need a friend, well I have a friend, but a guy friend.”

 I was jumping up and down on the inside, my face probably said how happy I was too. I told him ok, I’m the guy he can count on. I can’t believe he wants me to take him to the city. I face palm myself again, I can’t be getting happy over something as trivial as this.

 We arrived to the office, sooner than I expected. He gave his note to Mrs. Jones, she asked Max, “so…so far how have been school”

 I rolled my eyes at that, this lady was always flirting with people who was younger than her, I mean she was gorgeous but can someone say desperate, to this lady.

 Max answered her question, “Well seeing as I only went to first period, I guess it been ok.” I laughed at that, it’s funny when people were being sarcastic to people and they don’t even know it. I guess Max heard me because he turned around and gave me that look, what the fuck you laughing for look. I mouthed the word you.
