                          Chapter One

            I live in Gridlock a small town in the middle of the woods. It has a lot of dark history behind it. I live with my mother Mona. I have a best friend named Liz she is one of my best friend maybe my only best friend. But that all okay me and her together are unstoppable. She was my best friend since first grade. Her teeth may be creaked but that’s okay nobody’s perfect. I love her long blond hair and that she a skater girl just like me. Then there is Anna she is the queen of Gridlock high.  She picks on me because of my pink highlights. My mom said I was born with highlight. I like my high light no matter what that rag doll looking heifer says. I been to Gridlock high for two year. I always wanted to move to LA get away from this damn town. But my mother wants to stay. But that’s just my mother she can be stubborn but what I love most about her. She is brown headed green eyed freak. But she my freak. Liz also notice that my highlights changes color it goes from pink to blue. I ask my mom about it she said I was just born with cool hair. But I know that’s not true there is something wrong with me that my mom doesn’t want to tell me.

And I am going to do whatever it takes to find out what she is hiding from me.

            Me and Liz meet up the next day at school talk about are upcoming school dance. Liz was going to wear a blue with white strips dress. I was going to wear a spryly red dress. We went to the dress shop after school. My mom gave me two hundred dollars for my pretty dress. On the way me and Liz talked how fake Anna and how Anna going to be mad because how good we are going look. We finally got to the dress shop and me and Liz paid for are dress. As soon as we were about to leave. Anna walks in and yells at me for buy the dress she wanted. But I didn’t give a shit! “Oh Jessika I want me dress”! Anna screams at me. “Sorry Anna this me dress now so get over it”! I and Liz then grabbed our change and left. On the way back to my house I was so mad. “Are you okay”. “Yeah Liz I just wanted to rip her hair out” as I said that a heavy wind blow it felt like a storm was going to come on. “Jessika there is something wrong with your eye they are glowing pink”. I then looked in the bakery window. They where I then ran home to tell my mother. I BUST threw the door. “Mom” “mom” I screamed there is something wrong with my eyes. She slowly lifted up my head and saw that my eyes where pink. She then asked me if I got mad at someone. I then told her about Anna trying to take my dress. She then went and me a drink and sat me down and told me about my grandma. That night I figured out tree thing. One am a witch! Two my eyes change color when I am angry or doing magic and tree my highlights change color when something bad around me is going to happen. I asked my mom if she practice’s magic. She told me she dose and know I am in for training. My lesson will be after school tomorrow. After our long conversation about magic I told her I am getting tired be for I went to bed she told me I couldn’t tell anyone. That night I had a nightmare. I was being cased in the wood and I got stuck by an invisible force fled and old lady told me in week she will return. I then jump up from my sleep as my mom was setting at the foot of my bed. I asked her what spell am going to be learning. She smiled “A healing spell but after you get out of school”. “Okay mom are you driving me and Liz to school”. “Yeah baby girl”. “Thanks mom”. We pick up Liz at her house. When she got in the car she ask me “what was wrong with your eyes”. “I had an allergic reaction to something in the area”. “Oh that’s trippy”. We finally pulled up to the school me and Liz hope out the car. As my mom pulled away Anna and her group started tom make their way to me and Liz. “You took my dress you b****” Anna yelled at me. “Get over it you narcissistic b****”.

“Watch your back” she says trying to scare me. “I am not scared of you and your group of fake people” I tell her before me and Liz walked away. I know I just pissed off her and her group of friends but I don’t care. She want to see scary I will give her scary. I am tired of been her b****! I am done being the weak one I going to fight fire with fire. Liz was scared for me. But I told her not to be I will be fine. After Liz walked me to my first period class all I could think about is my lesson after school. After waiting threw first all the way through fourth period. Finally came lunch me and Liz talked about what kind of shoes she was going to wear to the dance. Liz is wearing her dress with baby blue shoes she is going to look so beautiful. I can’t wait to have the best moment of her life. She is going with the leader of our yearbook class. They are going to look so cute together. I haven’t figured out who I am going with. My mom finally pulled up. First we dropped Liz off. Mom then pulled a box out from under her set. “I got a present for you”. I opened it “Oh my god you got me a wand!” My mom turned onto trail. We then came to a stop. “We are going to have to walk the rest of the way”. I then slip my wand in the back part of my pants like a gun. “Am ready” I then told her. We get out the car and start walking to the place where my mom practice magic. We finally got there. She then told me that rules of my wand. “You have to keep you wand with you at all time.”  “You may use your magic to harm people but only if they try to hurt you.” “Okay mom I get it” I smiled. “Okay” she then pulled out a knife and cut her hand. “Fix it all you have to say is heal.” Okay it that simple yes it is that simple. I moved my wand around the cut and focused really hard and said heal.” It started to heal! It sound like paper crumbling up. Yeah I was scared that my mom just cut her hand but I did it. I fixed her hand. “Good job Jessika” My mom said proudly. “Thanks” I said smiling at her. “Now for a spell that comes in need when you’re in danger.” “Okay.”
