Have you ever felt like you were living in this box where it was covered with thick metal walls, a bunch of different kinds of metal chains around it and a huge heavy lock just waiting to be opened? I know it sounds absurd but that’s pretty much how my life has been. Until that day …

It was 5:30 am and I was still inside my cold dark room lying in my queen sized bed. I was annoyed by the loud barking outside my window, which was the main reason why I woke up early that day. I tried to go back to my beauty sleep but it was no use! So with my big strong hands I lifted my window open. I think I might have broken it because I heard a strange cracking sound just right on the side of the window. I was about to check it out until I noticed outside the window there was a surprisingly cute guy with a slightly kinky black hair and not so chinky eyes, that strangely when you look at them you’ll feel that this guy was somehow connected to you. The bark from his dog, which was probably the annoying freak who woke me up, has again awoken me back to reality. I quickly fixed myself and gathered my confidence to speak.

“Uh, Excuse me sir. Is that your dog?” I said.

He looked at his dog and then back at me.

“Isn’t it obvious? Of course it’s my dog.” he said arrogantly.

Shocked by his hideous attitude I prepared myself to fight back but before I was able to talk something unexpected happened.

“Oh pardon me; I’m so sorry I said that! I didn’t mean to. It’s just that I had a rough start this morning. Anyway I’m really sorry.” he said.

It took me a while to realize that this dude wasn’t faking it and that he really means it.

“Are you sure that you really mean it?” I bluffed.

“Yes, I’m sorry.” he responded. He knelt down on one knee and started petting his dog. “By the way why did you asked about my dog?” he asked.

“Yes about that. Can you not walk your dog around this house? His barking kind of disturbed my sleeping.” I said.

“Oh was that it? Well then I’m sorry on behalf of my dog Dinggo and myself for disturbing your beauty sleep. We won’t do it again.” he said.

“Great. Thank you and good day.” I said.

“Good day too Miss?” he asked politely.

“Ally, Ally Grace Lancaster.” I smiled.

He smiled back. The kind of smile that gives not only butterflies in your tummy but all the kinds of flying insects in the world.

“Nice meeting you outside your window Ally Grace. I’m Willem Waters.” he said. I chuckled in response but before I knew it I heard my mother screaming outside my door.

“Ally! Get out of your room now! Time for school!” she screamed.

“Flip! It’s the first day of school! Bye!” I said to Willem. I quickly shut my window without even waiting for what Willem was about to say. I got up from my bed and before I was about to open the door. I found myself unexpectedly smiling for no reason. Not knowing that that day was the beginning of something new.

We were sitting at our still wrapped-with-plastic table eating breakfast. On the table was fresh sunny side up eggs, crispy bacons and some round yummy pancakes that Mom always cooks. Dad was making his usual coffee while Mom was feeding my little brother Jc. Everybody was still adjusting to the new atmosphere thing, especially me. By the time my parents told me that we were moving I was devastated. I never liked the idea of moving again because all my life we were moving from here to there and trust me, it aint fun. In the moment I step foot in this place I hated everything. The trees, cars, people, animals, even the cloudy and bright sun in the sky. (Amazing right?) But every time this happens I keep telling myself that even if I tried to stand up for what I want or even try to be happy in a place, it could never happen. I’ll still be trapped in that box, in that metal box of misery. No freedom. No happiness. Nothing.
