September 3, 2015 - 8:12pm - Bistro, Manhattan

A guy, in his early twenties, eating at a nice restaurant, by himself.

It's not as lame as it sounds.

Sitting by the window of the second story, lofty, hipster cafe, he watched over the city. All he had on his table was a cup of coffee that he had pushed aside. He slouched over with his elbows on the table, resting his head on his hands. He let out a heavy sigh; not out of sadness, but out of contentment. He smiled watching the people pass by below him.

The city never sleeps, and he doesn't really either. That's just one more thing he has in common with this city, another reason he's comfortable here. He just came up here to relax, take a breath between shows.

He turned his head when he heard the strum of a guitar.

A little cliche cafe band walked on to a stage that he didn't even notice was there.

The group consisted of three people, an older gentleman on with a keyboard, a guy probably in his mid-twenties with an acoustic guitar, and a girl who stepped up to the microphone.

So cheesy.

She introduced herself, but he wasn't really listening, he was putting in headphones.

He stopped himself in the middle of picking a song.

She was actually good.

He pulled the earbuds out of his ears.

She was actually really good.

He turned his body away from the window so he was facing the stage.

"I must confess that when I wear this dress I feel like dancing the whole night with you."

She did a little twirl.

"And when I do," She shook her hips along  with the mild swing music, "I am so happy, I'm stuck on you."

She swayed with the music, singing, eyes closed with a huge smile on her face.

"You are the one I could see havin' fun with, not just for tonight, but for the rest of my life."

He typed the words in his phone, it was a cute song.

He looked up at the stage and made eye contact with her from across the room.

"You are the one I could never be done with, I want you tonight and for the rest of my life."

He laughed and smiled back at her as she sang to him.

She was cute. Long, curly, platinum blonde hair framed her face; he couldn't really see any of her features since she was so far away, but she seemed cute. Her hipster nerd glasses were kind of out of style but her outfit made up for it. A white leather jacket over a tight black dress, paired with black sneaker wedges.

"Not just for tonight, but for the rest of my life."

The people applauded as another song started.

Shortly after the music started his phone rang. Startled, he quickly jammed the volume button on his iPhone to silence it. He wanted to listen to the rest of the song so badly, but this call was kind of important. He sighed and slugged down the last of his coffee while he put his bag over his shoulder and walked to the bathroom to call back.

"What's up dude?" He said as his call was answered.

"Jordy! Where are you?"

"I'm at this cafe restaurant thing downtown, why?"
