Pushing the door shut with the back of my foot, I inhaled the chilled air along with the strawberry  scent of Alexis. A scent I had known for five years and always seemed to turn my heart into a lung, swelling at the inhalation of her natural scent. Placing her in the passenger seat I started the car, turned on the heater, and following the tracker.

We drove until early morning, and had switched shifts a few times so I could rest. Following 140 we made it to Oregon. According to His locator, He wasn't anywhere near civilization and there were no reports of missing people behind His trail. The nearly 10 hour drive from Hiko borught us to Lake view, where He was beginning to move back into main roads. He was going towards the neighbourhoods. Lex furled her brow,"The Drifter is smarter than this, Alex.." I throw a questioning glance toward her before ricocheting back to the road,"Look all I'm saying is this is out of character for him. He over analyzes everything, and usually decides to go for rural areas. The last four victims since he's been active we killed from early hours in the morning to late at night but all in the course of one day and set on the farthest rural estates from town-"

"The task force and the agency already confirmed He was deviating from his usual course, and there are many theorys but you and I, and most of our coworkers, know that this guy is a clever little fucker. Can we settle on that and just follow the damn tracker?" Lex hummed in thought, but was far from compliant with my statement. "I know He's trying to allude us from His path. This has to be another one of his tricks," she begins to tap her index finger against the curve of her jaw line, entering her forest of thought. The only trouble with these excursions are these neuro forests are about twice the size of America's national parks combined and can take days for her to navigate through it. Not too thrilled with the idea I snapped her back to attention,"hey, Lex, maybe you're right. But if he's appearing on the locator than we're on the right track. And besides, this guy's psycho. He's unpredictable-"

A loud surge of static emenates from the walkie talkie, the director's voice comes from the speaker:"Abend, Engle! You are following the wrong trail, I repeat, following the wrong trail! The Drifter just entered Idaho a few hours ago and the Idaho division has recovered his newest victim with only one victim..." There is a small break and the muffled speech of information to the director heard over the hurricane of static and the throbbing heart beat in my ears, "there isn't much time, you need to board a plane at the nearest airport. Show 'em your badges, they know the situation. The Utah division will meet you there and you will proceed to investigate.."
