Charlie's POV

I look at the girl and nod. "Nobody has raided this place yet. My family owned it, so this is where I've been holding up." She shrugs, putting her gun down and looking over at me. "Sorry about the whole 'gun to the head' thing." She says, holding her hand out for me to shake. "Names Sydney. I was a med student before this all started." She states. Mak was quick to shake her hand and tell her name, but I just looked at her until she got the memo. She puts her hand in her jean pocket and sighs. "I have two bags in the back that are a little bigger than the ones you have, so you can take those and fill them with whatever." She turns on her heels and heads toward what I assume was the pharmacy. "Don't worry about getting medical supplies, I have a bag for that as well as one for other supplies." She sends a small smile toward Mak before talking again. "I'll get water bottles if you guys want to get food." Mak nods again and I roll my eyes. "Act like you own the place." I murmur to myself, walking to the last isle away from the two.

Mak's POV

I watched as Charlie walked away and then turned to Sydney. "Don't worry about her, she just has trust issues." I shrug and she nods, stuffing medicines into her bag. "Understandable." She states, zipping the red bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "It's hard to trust people now. Especially since most people want to kill you and take your stuff." I nod at her statement and then start to throw cans into my own bag. "I'm Mak by the way." I state, sliding the last can of beans into my bag. Sydney sends a small smile my way before checking if she missed anything. "The city is a few miles that way. I know there's a safe place there because I've run into the people there a few times." She shrugs, pointing to a general direction of the city. The sound of Charlie's bag hitting the floor causes both of us to jump and I turn to glare at her. "There's a safe place around here and you didn't bother to go?" She asks as if the girl was the dumbest person alive. "Because I have plenty of supplies here?" The smaller girl questions, rolling her eyes. "Look, I understand that you may not be very fond of me, but it's probably best if we stay as a group." Charlie rolls her eyes and picks her bag back up, looking over at us. "Well are we going to this thing or what?" I ask, trying my hardest to lighten the mood. Charlie nods, heading toward the door as Sydney sighs. "Oh, here." The young girl says, picking up the gun from earlier and switching the safety on. "You're probably better with this than me." She says, tossing it in my direction. I fumble around to catch it and then hold it in my hands. "I saw you didn't have a weapon when you got here." She sighs, pulling a crossbow from behind the counter and strapping it onto her shoulder over the bag. "This is for the other girl, but I'm sure she won't take it from me." She hands me a decent sized knife before walking toward the door. I follow quickly behind her, eventually catching up with Charlie. "Here." I say, trying to catch my breath as I hand her the knife from Sydney. She takes it and shoves it into her back pocket. "Thanks." She grumbles as Sydney catches up to us. "Never got your name..." Sydney trails off, looking toward Charlie. She scoffs before looking over at the girl. "Charlie." She states, continuing to walk forward.
We continued in silence for a while before Sydney stops in front of a big building. "So there's definitely infected in this area." She states, pulling her crossbow off her back and holding it. "Mak, you probably won't be able to do much since your weapon is loud." I nod to her, looking over at Charlie. "Well she can't just be defenseless." Charlie hisses, pulling Sydney toward her by her shirt. "Or are you trying to get us killed so you can get somewhere safer?" She drops the smaller girl who then falls backwards. "I was going to give her this." She states, pulling a small switchblade out of her back pocket. "Charlie. Calm down. She's trying to help us." I state, standing between the two and glaring at the older girl. I took the small blade from Sydney and send her an apologetic look. "Then let's go." Charlie says, waiting on Sydney to advance. She nods, walking slowly through the street. She pauses in front of us and sighs. A few feet in front of her was an infected person stumbling around in the street. "What are you doing? Kill it." Charlie whisper yells from my left. Sydney sighs again, shooting an arrow into the head of the infected before walking toward it. She kneels in front of the now dead body and says a few things that I cannot hear. Charlie and I both walk toward her hesitantly. "Sydney?" I question as we reach her. She takes in a breath before bringing her hand to her face. "Are you crying? What never killed an infected before?" Charlie scoffs, rolling her eyes. "Charlie." I scold, kneeling down next to the girl. She sniffles a little before wiping her face again. She faces me and then I see that she was most definitely crying. I look down at the infected to see that it was once a boy, probably around my age. "My brother." She states when she notices me looking at the body. "I-I knew that they were gone, but I never thought that I'd have to do it." She states, wiping her face again. I reach out and gently rub her back. "I'm sorry kid." I say, looking back at Charlie. She has a small look of regret on her face, but it goes away as soon as she notices me watching her. "We should probably get going." I state after a few moments. Sydney nods in response, standing up and walking toward the town again. I send a small glare toward Charlie as I follow behind the younger girl. "Good going." I mutter as I pass.
"Here." Sydney states as we get to the edge of the town and to a rather large building with cameras around the outside. "There has to be people in here." She states, walking to the door and waving at the camera. "Seriously? Should be people here? You didn't think to check before promising random people that it's safe?" Charlie exclaims, throwing her hands around in a frantic manner. I sigh, watching the eldest try to pick a fight with Sydney again. The latter continues to wave at the cameras. "Hey! I know there's someone in there. Please, just let us in." She states to the camera, setting her things down. "I don't think there's anyone in there Sweetie." I sigh, also placing my bags down. Charlie scoffs turning around. "Yeah no shit." She grumbles, crossing g her arms. Sydney continues to Wave down the camera as I join Charlie on the stairs to the building. "Trust the kid you said." She scoffs, glaring at me. "Look at us now." She states, kicking a rock across the street. A movement to my left causes me to glance in that direction. I quickly hit Charlie's arm to alert her. "What the fuck do you- oh god." She looks over at what I was pointing to. A group of at least a hundred infected were walking this direction. "We have to go. Now." She states, pulling me back to where Sydney is still trying to get the attention of the people inside. "The camera moved a second ago so there have to be people in there and- hey what are you doing?" She asks, watching Charlie pick up one of my bags and get ready to walk away. "There's a giant group of infected coming this direction and you can stay here with the false hope of those 'people' in there letting you in and die if you want." She states, begin I g to walk away. Sydney bangs on the door one last time before groaning in frustration. "Fine." She grumbles before leaning to pick up her bag. A loud beeping noise alerted us as we all turned to face the door. "Come on! Hurry up!" A taller boy with faded blue hair calls to us from inside. Sydney smirks at me before running inside to the stranger. I glance over at Charlie before turning to also enter. "Are you serious?" She asks, grabbing my wrists and giving me an odd look. "At least until the infected pass." I say, walking inside to the boy. I hear her curse under her breath and then follow behind me.
