"Hey! Lilac! Can you heal me quickly!" I said as soon as I reached our base of operations. This place had always been beautiful. Lilac made sure of it. She kept the plants alive and made sure it was always clean. So, I made sure to thank her whenever I could. That's more than the others did anyway. They just ignored her. Made her feel useless. Not realising that we are alive because of her. Not realising that we can fight because of her.
"Thanks Lilac, I appreciate it" But obviously when I did thank her. The team wouldn't follow along and do the same. Pathetic.
After everyone was finished getting healed. They sat there. Shouting and screaming at each other while drinking with each other. And of course. Only I thanked Lilac. Why did I even bother? She didn't notice anyway.
"Hey, Ian, I'm going to take a walk to the woods for a bit." Lilacs couldn't hide her smile as she said this. The dimples she always hated were showing.
"Ok! I'll tell the others if you want." My face was still hidden behind my mask. Only the top half of my head was showing. Which had always been good for me. I could hide my emotions behind my eyes but not behind my smile and my cheeks. That was the most difficult thing for me.
She hadn't been back for hours. I was getting worried. Nobody else was. And that scared me. They all seemed to notice as well. I was jumpy and on edge. The shadows were talking to me. I asked them politely to check on her but they disobeyed. They didn't care. Or they were scared of something.
"Ian? Are you alright?" our leader who was the biggest and who thought he was the strongest guy said. He slowly placed a hand on my shoulder which made me flinch more than it should have.
"Perfectly fine! Nothings wrong.. Nothing at all." I mumbled. I could feel everyone staring at me. It stayed like this for a few seconds which felt like an eternity until the alarm buzzed. Why was it buzzing? Did the bad guys really try to throw an attack straight after we had just beat them! They really are stupid. They wouldn't have had enough time to heal like us. Something is wrong here.
"Well! You all heard that! Grab your weapons and let's get them!" Our leader, Matthew, shouted at us.
As soon as we reached the battleground you could tell something was wrong. Only we were there. Everyone seemed to relax a bit. Probably thinking that it was a misunderstanding. But the shadows we're whispering in my ear. Telling me to stay focused. Telling me that something is gonna happen. My daggers stayed sharp to my side. My knuckles turning white as I gripped the daggers. And I was right. Never let your guard down. Ever. Because in a couple of seconds a mysterious figure showed up and had thrown Matthew into a tree. Hardly lifting a finger. This person. I knew them. But from where?
"Lilac? Is that you?" My voice trembled. I couldn't hurt her. She was part of a team. I didn't even realise I was walking backwards until I bumped into a tree.
"What?!" Somehow the rest of the team said this in unison. The shock wasn't as clear in their voices but you could hear the anger. "You are supposed to be on our team! Not theirs!" One of my teammates managed to speak up.
"Well, you guys underestimated me. Made me feel useless and weak. Made me waste my energy on healing you. Taking all the credit." It was like venom when she spoke. No longer the soft and kind voice. It was a snake hiding behind a mask. And after that. The battle has begun.
Everyone was on the floor. Including me. The only difference was. I could still move. Nobody had died. But she was right, we underestimated her. We underestimated the bad guys. I couldn't let them win. I just couldn't. I had to stand up and fight.
"Matthew, leader fo the group, extremely strong but his ego is what takes control. Luke, a powerful mage who uses the elements, doesn't realise how much he can hurt people. Brandon, uses the magic of an angel, acts more like a demon. Brian, transformation magic, he should stay transformed as a sheep." She stalked all of them as she said this. All while they were unable to move on the floor, defenceless. Weak. "And last but not least, Damian, the shadow mage, he is the nicest of you all, can you believe that! The thief is the nicest one, the one who talks to the shadows and stalks his prey. And can kill someone in a second, is the nicest one. He thanks me. He acknowledges me. But. He is still one of you. He doesn't step in when I'm being insulted by you. He instead, goes to hide away in the shadows. Just like when he was a kid." She walked towards me. I had already stood up, prepared to fight her. I had bruises scattered across my skin. My clothes were torn. My blood boiled inside of me. And yet I couldn't even hurt her. Before I could realise it, she was standing in front of me with her sword to my neck.
"Lilac, we don't have to do this." reasoning was out if the picture and we both knew it.
"Get on your knees." she hissed at me. There was no point of me arguing with her. She would kill me straight away. So I listened and knelt.
"That's a good boy. Now. I'm doing this because I won't kill you. Actually, I won't kill anyone. Because we're would be the fun in that." she stared into my eyes and I felt everything go blurry. I could only look into them. "You will be mine. Forever"
My world was going dark around me. And the only thing I could see was her eyes, and my friends escaping.
"Mind control works so well if the person you use it on cares deeply about you." her laugh filled my head and with that. Everything was dark.
