Darling, did you know?
It's summer in the Artic too
Right now.
Have they not told you yet? Or have you just not seen
the way the silver ice turns brazen gold under the rays
of an unyielding sun.
Come, look my love. The permafrost is melting.
Under the warmth and care it melts and gives...and joyful tiny mushrooms sprout.
No lover, no, you mustn't look away
Back to the polar ice caps
from where you came.
You fear to burn your eyes, from all the shine, but darling-
you can squint.
Your eyes-they aren't yet adjusted to the light..
but soon they will.
For darling, now you know,
it's summer in the arctic tundra now.
And light is shining everywhere.
For even permafrost can melt.
There's always light.
Even behind the snow.
