Being an avid reader in paper backs, to then coming up and adapting to the mobile apps for reading, this is my journey of Wattpad from being a reader to writer of three stories and many more to come.
It was back in 2013 when my friend had introduced me to Wattpad. But the only problem was, I couldn't really do with reading eBooks and I was in 10th standard. Getting it installed just for the sake of my friend, and then uninstalling it back, that was how my first time on Wattpad was. Two years down the lane, with my books wrapped up in trunks for I was in 12, I had resorted back to Wattpad. And it was that hour of the need when I once again began reading and using Wattpad.
The stories here had been so addicting. Not just one genre that I would be stuck with like in paper backs, with options of not just different genres but as well as authors from all around the world. Be it the Philippines authors or the U.S ones or the Russian mafia story or the cliché Newyork cities billionaire and secretary story.
I was hooked to them. Every day while traveling to school I would read the books, the number and speed would increase so much that at times I had even read a book a day. Wattpad wasn't just that, it became a friend, a motivator in its own ways. When I had to take a drop from my studies, that whole year Wattpad became that safe heaven which would assure me that it was okay and right with what I had done. That it wasn't wrong to take a drop, think and look into things that you liked to do rather than following the predefined norms by the society.
During the time when I was fighting off depression, when things weren't working out for me, Wattpad become a facet toward finding me and getting me back to the track.
It was during these times when I would read so many stories, that I was motivated to write. I call it a very crazy step of mine, when I had, had this huge fight with my parents and had just went off and switched on my computer and had began writing the first chapter of my story. When my anger subsided and I realized I was fine now, I had saved it and had never went back to it until I had read articles on the bomb blast attacks and how many people were affected by it.
I wanted to write a story on this, on how though a person dies away, there are so many people left behind who might have no clue about them not being there any more or the back story of what really happened on that day, were they okay, were they happy...and how these things can actually effect the relations that were left behind.
Over the months that I had been writing I received wonderful readers, they would motivate me, their feedbacks as to how they loved the story the characters made me so happy. It was their support and belief that this story was great I finally completed, my first book "And we fell in love" at that time as well many people had wanted to have a squeal and still I receive so many messages as to how amazing the story is, and with each successive message and day, it motivates me to write many more.
I began writing my second book A bubble of Happiness in mid of while writing the first one. Readers and viewership wasn't an instant thing for this book, at that time I was reminded of the time when my mom had said "Do whatever you want but always make sure you finish it off." It took me three years to finish that book. It was one such book that talked about me, about the things that I wanted to do in my life, some I had failed while others that I achieved. A love story that many teenager had connected to.
I began writing my third book Enchanted Pursual last year. It was on a vacation when I had visited the palaces and came to know about their stories, which had motivated me to write this book.
Today I have two completed books, one on going and it makes me happy as to how Wattpad gave me readers not just from India but as well as from countries whose names I have never heard about. There are these people from Zambia and Namibia countries of whose existence I wasn't even aware about till the time I had seen my demographics and its just so overwhelming.
When I came to know about the various groups, pages and accounts that were for Indian authors I had went out to them, I met many ambassadors around these 4- 5 years of mine on Wattpad and its really wonderful how not just the readers but as well as the ambassadors are as well amazing. I got even many wonderful friends through them.
When I began my college, and got many friends, I realized there were so many people who were there on Wattpad, whenever we meet, we discuss out the various authors, books etc. and the zeal and connectivity that we feel is just something really amazing.
There had been various changes, up and downs and situations in my life where I had lost hope, at such a time Wattpad was that one place which made me realize my strengths, Wattpad gave me a reality check as to it is writing, weaving out various wonderful stories that I am best at. It gave me an identity from being a normal average reader... to though an unrecognized yet an author whose stories reach out to several of countries and people around the world.
