Stepping off the plane and into the airport, I can feel the rush and bustle of the city already. Air filled with chatter and the smell of coffee invades my senses as I look to a small coffee shop/stand with a line of people already cued up.
Making my way through security and going to get my bags, I'm endlessly trying to avoid bumping into people. I guess that's one good thing about growing up in a small town, don't have to avoid people as much. Finally reaching my bags and making my way through the maze of white walls, screens and windows, I make it outside and call a taxi. While waiting I take in the day around me. It's Autumn but all the trees near the airport are evergreens so they aren't changing colour. It's pretty warm still, but a slight chill in the breeze makes the heat a bit more bearable. It had been pouring down with rain when I took off at the Launceston airport in Tasmania, so I'm not really wearing the right clothes for the weather in Melbourne.
It takes about half an hour for the taxi to arrive and 20 minutes to get to my destination. I'm left standing outside a real estate office where I'm meant to be meeting with a man who's going to be giving me the keys and show me the address of my cafe and apartment. The building's tall and seems to just be a giant mirror reflecting the creative and colourful buildings behind me. Looking up at it i almost feel intimidated, almost. I need to keep head high and look forward, no time to be nervous.
Stepping in, I walk to the front desk and explain why I'm here and who I'm seeing. He directs me to the elevator saying that I need to go to office 513, which was basically saying office 13, floor 5.Once on my way up, luggage in hand, I catch my reflection in the mirror like walls. I'm short, just gonna say it straight up, I'm 5'3 and have fair but partly tanned skin, like a light almond colour. My hair is short, with a shaved short faded undercut, it lead up to the messy bunch of hair that sits on the top of my head, it's brushed forward and the length settles just between my eyebrows and eyes. A smoky quarts colour for the top and the undercut is my natural hair colour, a colour between brown and blond. My cheeks are covered in light freckles that almost blend with my skin tone, and my bright blue eyes are shinning a light ocean blue. I'm dressed casually a light plain black short sleeve shirt, grey straight jeans, a thick brown jacket and over ankle, black, flat shoes. The binder I'm wearing doesn't help with the heat either but I can't currently be bothered to take my jacket off and try to pack in one of the near bursting bags that I have with me.
The elevator arrives at the floor and left with on me when the doors open. I quickly make my way to the office, knocking before stepping in.
Behind the desk sits a man probably in his late 40s to early 50s, white hair, so thin I can see his scalp, pale skin, crows feet and smile lines, big brown eyes and a well pressed grey pin stripe suit. He motions for me to sit."Good afternoon, Jay. It's a pleasure to meet you face to face" he says this with a bright smile, but I can tell he's tired. It's nearly 4 And I'm sure he'd like to get home.
"It's nice to meet you as well" I reply quietly but strongly, i want to get this over with. "Can we go see the property or is there something that needs to filled out first?" I continued saying.
He hands me a pile of paperwork, I internally sigh. This is gonna take a while.....
