It was a dark and stormy night as I sat on my window sill trying to drown out the noise coming from downstairs, gazing at the trees blowing in the wind, the branches banging on the thick glass of my parents' Victorian house, leaves sticking to the wet surface. My parents were hosting a business gathering, in other words, a party for rich people to drink until they fall unconscious, down in the dining area of the house. My dad, Tobey Moore, was a novelist, and my mom, Sabrina Elizabeth Moore, worked for a publishing company, the very same publishing company that published my dad's books, they were celebrating his third successful book, which was titled "Love From A Time Machine".

I turn and jump off the window sill and start to head to my bed, "Damien Moore, what have I told you about staying up late?" My mom said as she walked into my room, her brown hair looked especially beautiful that night. Her dress was a radiant blue color which accentuated her ocean blue eyes. Before she started working for the publishing company, which was called Jordan Co. Publishing, she wanted a career in fashion, but instead decided to work for a friend at the publishing company. By the time my dad published his second book, my mom was Director of Sales and in charge of making sure the public was well aware of it's release. They met a few times before my dad's first book was published, but really didn't hit it off until about a year after it's release.

"Sorry mom," I said with an irritable look on my face as I got into bed and under the covers. "All the noise is keeping me up and I can't sleep..."

"It's alright, just try to get some sleep, okay?" I nodded my head, my mom smiled as she walked towards my bed, "Well good night my little munchkin."

Back then I used to hate it when she called me that, "Mom," I sigh, "I'm thirteen, I don't think I'm a munchkin anymore."

She kissed my forehead, "You'll always be my little munchkin. Good night Hun," She turned off the light, "Love you." and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.

"Love you too," I say quietly to myself.

After that, most of the night was a blur, with only loud pouring rain, gunshots, a lot of screaming, and me being too scared to come downstairs among all the deafening sounds . After the noises came to a stop and after I worked up enough courage to crawl out of bed. I opened my door and stumbled down the stairs and into the dining area. I let out a huge scream and ran over to my mom and dad lying on the floor. The rain seemed to pick up at that moment, and you could hear the wind start to howl, covering up the sound of my own cries and sorrow. Every rain fall makes me think, think back to that dreadful night three years ago when my life was almost instantly torn apart.
