 November

Their bodies, some now barely recognizable

In a confused jumble on the cold, hard ground

Carelessly tossed, unloved and unwanted –

The dead and dying succumb all around

Ours was once a lovely, vibrant place

Alive and growing. A place to breathe

Attractive and fresh, a home with hope

This reckless destruction makes me seethe

And this is not the end! This is but a prelude

A harbinger of more death and destruction

 Colder, harsher, more depraved, unmitigating

Gloating, laughing at our happy lives’ abduction

In this new world there will be beauty

To the eye, a dreamy, achromatic suitor

Leaving the cruelly weighed down survivors

Longing for that vital, warmer, promised future
