"MOMMY!" My terrified shrill screams echo through the dimly lit room of our once happy home. Tears sting my eyes as I take in the gruesome scene before me.

My dad is on top of my motionless mom, ripping into her flesh with his bare teeth, blood dripping from his snarling lips, soaking his clothes and staining the ground. The scarlet liquid is everywhere. My mom's cold lifeless eyes stare at me, her mouth hanging open in a frozen scream. I can't look away, no matter how I much I want to. My body isn't listening. I'm too scared.

My screaming must of alerted my dad because he jerks his head toward me. His eyes are completely white, his face sunken in like a decomposing corpse. His mouth, dripping crimson red, hangs open slightly as he sniffs the air. I don't think he can see me.

I want to back away, run away from the scene that lay out before me, but I can't move my legs. Fear has me frozen, caught in a deadly trap.

My dad charges at me like a crazed animal, ready to tear me apart and I brace myself for the pain, but before he can get me someone pulls me away. I'm scooped up into warm, strong arms. The person is running with me buried in their chest. It feels like were going faster then humanly possible.

I look up at a navy blue haired man, a pair of broken glasses on his nose. A little stubble on his chin. I recognize him. He's a pro hero. A speedster with weird pipe things jutting out of his back.

I've always looked up to the pros and had dreamed of being one when I was older, but with the virus outbreak I think that dream is as dead as this world seems to be. I'd barely had my quirk a year, being only five years old, so I can very little control of it.

"You're safe now." The hero smiles down at me, as he begins to slow his pace. I grip onto his white robot man suit. He reminded me of a medieval knight. At least thats what it looked like to my child brain. It's broken and dirty, no longer covering his left arm and it looks like he might of had a helmet at some point.

I take this moment to burst into tears, wailing for my mommy and daddy. I don't understand what happened. The man tries to calm me, but I'm not having it. He brings me into one of the shops nearby to get off the streets. Nowhere is safe, but being out in the open is a big risk.

After a good ten minutes of wailing and then crying softly I calm down, sniffling and wiping at my red puffy eyes with my small hands. He's put me down by now, searching the store for supplies. It's one of those general stores with a little of everything in it.

I'd been following him until a little section of stuffed animals caught my eye. A lime green bunny in particular has my interest. It's small and fluffy as hell.

I scoop it up in my arms, hugging the soft plush close, feeling a little better with something to hold. The pro hero turns around when he realizes I'm no longer following. "You like that one, huh?" He smiles, adjusting his broken glasses, probably glad to see me somewhat happy and calm for the moment.

I nod, burying my face into the soft fur of the plush bunny, "can I have it, please?"

"As long you stay brave for me and do as I say, alright?" He asks, a mixture of seriousness and gentle assurance taking over his features.

I nod, mustering up as much courage as I could to give him a little look full of determination. "I promise."

And I would keep that promise for years to come. I'd stay brave, I'd trust him and do as he says. We'd keep each other alive, as he trained me to be a real hero like him.

I didn't know it when I made that promise, but this pro hero was determined to save me. He couldn't save anyone else, his friends, his loved ones, everyone was gone except me. A random little girl he happened to encounter and he was going to protect me.

And it would ultimately cost him his life.
