I don't know how to be a normal girl. Throughout my life, I've always been my own person. A tomboy, I guess. I was never interested in dolls and never interested by the thought of unicorns and rainbows. Maybe I wasn't so interested in the latter because I knew the world was darker. Much darker. In this world, not even close family can be immediately trusted, or you'll just end up in the dirt and thrown into fire. "The only light is the light inside yourself" I told myself in my thoughts as I looked at the fire. While normal girls would be further away from the intense heat, I was always interested in the fire from the fireplace. Sometimes, I feel as if I could bend it to my will, but it never listened. It only continued to do its job of heating up the house.

"Aly, please get away from the fire. You'll get burned." My mom told me as she was reading a book.

"The fire doesn't want to hurt me." I touched the fire. I almost wanted to play with it. The heat was so relaxing.

Mom was shocked to see I wasn't burned from touching the fire, but she still scolded me. I apologized and went to my room.

Two years later, I didn't know that same trick would save my life.

"Mom! Dad! Anyone!" I yelled out as I tried to pick up the tree that landed on the house and on my leg, but no one came.

Fire was everywhere... fire was eating the village. I saw this with my own eyes and as a little girl, I could do nothing about it! Was this the work of my disowned uncle? Was it the bandit clan under his orders? I was filled with fear and hate just thinking about everything.

Fire was spreading closer and closer to me. Is this the end? When the fire touched me, it felt like a relaxing warmth instead of a burn. Right! Just like the last time I touched fire a few years ago. It doesn't help my leg though, which is broken and bruised. I decided to call out a few more times before accepting fate.

Funnily enough, it seemed like fate was the one that accepted me.

"I hear something!" I heard a voice call out. It was a new voice. A group of outsiders came to look for survivors?

Before I knew it, the tree was lifted from my leg by a man who looked like a muscular, black haired man who had a weird symbol on his black uniform. A man with dark hazel hair, brown eyes, and light battle equipment came into the house and picked me up. "A little child." The dude that picked me up said. He also had a weird uniform with a T on it.

"Only survivor?" A third dude said, this one had an A on his uniform. He carried heavy weapons, "We'll take her back to base and tend to her wounds and breaks. Then we'll send her to an orphanage."

"Good idea. We don't need a child running around the base." The dude with the weird symbol said.

When I had my arms around the guy with the T on his uniform, I don't know but... I feel like I could trust him. The others... not so much.
