It rained the day I died. I still hear the voice of the priest saying; it was a sign that God had not forsaken us despite our sins. I remember shivering in the cold, the burn of the rope I was tied with chafing at my skin and most of all the feeling of acceptance. Unlike the others who were burned before me, I knew that there was no getting out of this alive and I had accepted my fate. My sister, however, had not. She was pulling at her ropes trying to get free all the while cursing our towns people who had gathered to watch us get burned at the stake. It wasn't their fault, they were scared of what was happening around them, they needed a scapegoat to blame it on and those burned were the unlucky chosen ones. But there was a difference between my sister and I, and the ones who were burned before us; we were guilty, we were WITCHES.
My mother had moved us to Salem, Massachusetts ten years before the witch trials started to get away from the witch huntings of Europe ( it's kind of ironic isn't it). But she had passed away from influenza a few years after our arrival. But I'm glad she was dead, because it would have surely killed her to see the people she had helped turn against her. The murmurings from the crowds finally stopped and I knew it was time, I turned to my sister Isabelle and we whispered I love you to each other as the priest gave the final speech, the fire was set to the branches below the stake and the burning commenced. I'd like to say I say I was kind enough to forgive them for their ignorance as the fire burned around me but I couldn't. So I shut my eyes, tight, and endured the horrible pain of the fire's lick against my skin spreading throughout my body. I was dead in a minute. That was how I got to the other side.
That's it, for now, thanks for reading up till now, I might post a disclaimer if anyone is offended by the events in the story but remember it I fiction and I'm not really concentrated on historical accuracy. Don't forget to vote and comment, tell me what you think and I love feedback. That's it for now and I'll try to update soon. Picture of Amelia is above.
