                                                                  CHAPTER ONE

“No! No. Please. Don’t. Don’t kill me!” I pleaded with all my life.

“I’m sorry, Kara. I have to” the ghost says as she holds the knife in front of her and lunged towards my throat.

“What did I do to you?” I ask, still scared.

“You stole what was mine. And now…You. Need. To. Die.” She replies, her face full of fury.

Oh my God. She’s going to kill me. What do I do? Run? Towards where? All I see is utter darkness, and I stumble to my feet.

Run, my instincts commanded me. And with that, I did. I need to run despite the darkness, I must survive…I must live.

And then, I shriek as I saw a white floating figure rearing towards me.

“Noooooooooooo!!!!” I scream.

“Kara!”

“Kara! Are you okay?” I hear muffled voices.

“She doesn’t look okay.” Beth. Oh, Beth! I open my eyes and realize that I am in our dormitory, surrounded by my friends and fellow roommates.

“Oh, thank God you’re awake! We were so worried! What happened to you?” Kate asks, her sleepy eyes facing mine.

“Just a bad dream. It’s nothing. Really.” I shrugged. Jumping out of the bed.

“Oh, God. You’ve been having these bad dreams for days. Is it still the same?” Beth asks as I stood towards the chaise lounge in my room.

I sigh, “Yes, Beth. It’s still the same. There is still a ghost but she wants me dead, this time.”

“Oh, Kara. This is alarming. It’s like someone’s haunting you. At first, it seems like the ghost is just chasing you…trying to scare you away…but, this…This is different.” She says, sounding so worried, a crease forming in her face.

“Don’t worry, Beth. I’m fine. Nothing’s happened. “I reassure her, Kate disappears to the kitchen and out of the bedroom.

“I don’t know. I can’t see your future since you started having bad dreams. It’s like; I am blocked or banned from seeing it. You know, like those crazy Facebook options…saying, ‘Block this person.’…. ” Beth replies.

What? She can’t see my future? That’s weird.

Well, I know Beth’s psychic and all, gifted with supernatural abilities to see the future. Sure, she has proven it and I really do believe her. Once, when I first came here at Oakridge High, she told me that my cat, Sugar, whom I have left at home, will die by getting hit by a truck. Creepy, yeah. But, it really did happen anyway. And then she knew I’d be coming to Oakridge and she also knew a lot of things about me, as in a lot. Take my favorite things and hobbies for example, and, oh, my parents’ divorce which I haven’t told anybody, she absolutely knew about it and it’s just weird for a girl like me from New York who arrived to a new place just an hour and then suddenly, there’s this girl in purple highlights and gothic style of clothing who says things about me which me, myself and I only knew. Talk about being such a stalker! But, no. Beth just has these supernatural abilities. And she can really tell if a person is good or bad, she can feel it…chakras and stuff. But, despite all these weird things about her, Beth is a kind, adorable young lady so she became a friend. A trusted friend.

“Well. I’m okay. We’re all okay. So, please stop worrying. Let’s just eat breakfast.” I say, trying to cheer her up, motioning towards the dining table where Kate waves at us to signify that breakfast is ready.

“ Okay. “ she replies, sounding like she has no other choice as we walk towards the dining area.
