I walk down the halls of my old abandoned school. Carelessly looking at the now bent and dilapidated lockers that many students stood by and talked, kissed and gossiped at. I never participated particularly. I found it quit ridiculous and a waste of time. Though many of my clique wanted me to stay around while they talked and gossiped. They pined for my validation, throwing complaints of 'don't go' and 'please stay' while I close my locker after I get the things I need for my next class. I stop, as I see a familiar locker. It still had a few pictures of me and my friends. I let out a deep sigh as I remembered Lily, my best friend and I standing by the my locker the day it happened. I was getting my stuff for lit class and she closes my locker on me. I give her this exasperated look and she gives me this innocent smile. I sighed at her and crossed my arms, "What is it?"
She looks apprehensive as she says, "Meet me after class! I wanna get some ice cream like old times."
I had looked to see if any of the girls from my clique were listening in. To my surprise they weren't even behind me, but it was nice. I look back to Lily, "Yeah, just you and me."
She squeals in excitement and scuddles off to her next class. I had smiled to myself and walked away.
I wish I hadn't though, because that's the last I would've seen my best friend of so many years.
A tear rolls down my tan cheek as I wished that I had went looking for her, that I hadn't ran with the other students to evacuate and went looking for her. I had later that day known why my clique wasn't behind me or close by. Rosey, had been making out with her boyfriend and apparently he was infected, and bit her neck. Then she infected the rest of my clique at lunch time while I was eating lunch by myself in one of my favorite teacher's rooms. The evac happened during my lit class, so many kids running and jostling to get out. Teachers trying to get us to stay calm and get out safely, but of course that didn't happened. I was among those kids that were racing to get out of the school. When I got out I raced to the playground where I hoped to see Lily so that we could leave together, but she was not there. I had ran once I saw Rosey and the rest of my clique who were shambling towards me, blood running from their necks and lips.I hear a pencil roll in the distance in the next classroom over. I whip my head in the direction it came from and readied my sword.
