Elio turned to face Marvin. He was a good five inches or more shorter than him. But he didn't look intimidated in the least."What do you mean?" Elio responded. Sweat collected at his forehead. Memories of last night flashed before his eyes.
"You left with him. I went by to see him this morning before work and his folks said he was taken away."
"Taken away? Where?"
"Asylum."
Elio stumbled backwards. Marvin accosted him, keeping the space between them minimal. Heat radiated from between their bodies. Anger burned in Marvin's eyes. This was why he helped him, because he wanted answers, or solutions.
"I don't know nothing about that," Elio said. His heart raced.
Your eyes. They were completely black.
Blood rushed to his head. Dizziness tilted his view.
Marvin snatched his collar and shook him. "What the fuck did you do to Andries?"
"Nothing, I swear."
A hard slap knocked the wind out of Elio. He fell to the ground. Flowers flattened underneath his weight, now ruined. Elio looked at them. They were daisies. Sophia loved daisies.
Pain pierced Elio's side as Marvin slammed his foot into his ribs. Elio crashed back into the ground, his cheek against the dirt.
"His folks said he had semen on him," Marvin growled, kneeling down to Elio. He grabbed a fistful of Elio's hair and yanked his head up. Elio's neck strained from the roughness. Marvin kept his voice quiet. He must not have wanted his father to witness this, to know what was going on.
"He... we..."
"What did you do to Andries?"
"I didn't do anything. He came onto me. He kissed me."
Marvin smashed Elio's face into the soil, clogging his nostrils and scraping his flesh. "Andries ain't like that, you goddamn liar."
"It's true. Please, stop."
Elio struggled against Marvin's strength. He tried to get up, or at least get leverage over his own body, but Marvin's muscles were more developed, more aggressive. Elio only every really lifted Bibles and books. He was weak.
Again and again, Marvin slammed his face into the dirt until his nose was bloody and lips were swollen. Tears streamed down his face as he quietly pleaded for Marvin to stop.
Marvin whispered, "Folks like you deserve to die. You're a goddamn demon." His voice was vicious.
Marvin tried once more to slam his head into the ground, but Elio's head didn't move. Marvin tried again. Nothing. So he stood and began kicking Elio as he did before, right in the ribs.
Elio stood as well despite the harsh blows and turned back towards him. When Marvin looked up at Elio this time, he did not see a face he recognized. He saw blackened eyes scrawled with thick veins. He backed away from Elio, but was caught by the throat.
"Envy," Elio whispered. His voice was like a beast's.
Marvin growled and reeled his arm back, bursting his fist into Elio's cheek. The punch did nothing except explode pain in his own hand. Elio's head didn't even move.
"What the fuck are you?" Marvin spat.
He swung repeatedly at Elio, trying to free himself, but it was all in vain. Somehow, he was the weak one now.
