"I know we are dating and everything, but I can't help feeling that he likes someone else." My best friend Amanda said to me while we were out shopping.
"No way, Ethan totally loves you." I responded, and she jokingly glared at me. "No way Emma, I swear he still likes his ex." She said. "Or you." I heard her say quietly.
"I am not having this conversation with you again." I told her. "Now, I have to go try these shirts on, so you can come with me, or you can stay here." She ran to catch up with me as I quickly walked off.
I went to the dressing room to try on the three shirts I found that I like. "What do you think of this one?" I asked her as I stepped out of the dressing room. "I love it."
Next one. "Hate it." She said.
Right before I asked her about my third shirt. She said, "Ethan just texted me." I looked at her. "And....?" I asked. "Oh. It's nothing." She said while smiling.
Then she looked at me. "I love it." She said, talking about my shirt. "Great. Two out of three." I said.
As she drove me back to my house, I kept asking her what Ethan had said. "Not telling." She said.
I frowned. "Come on. Please." She glared at me. "No." And then she kept her eyes on the road. I stopped asking.
When we got to my house, I saw a FaceTime call from Nico on my laptop. I answered. "Hey babe." I said. "Hey beautiful." He responded.
We have been dating for a slight bit more than 3 months. Our anniversary was last week. We chatted for a while, but then my brother got home.
"I have to go, it's Mason." I said. "Alright, bye." He responded. Then I shut my laptop and ran upstairs to greet my brother.
"Hey, did I hear Nico's voice?" He said. I sighed. He hates Nico. All he has ever told me when I ask why is that he 'Has a bad feeling about him.'
"No, I was talking with another friend." I told him. He doesn't know that me and Nico are dating, and I would like it to stay that way.
Then I went to my room and I saw a text from Amanda's boyfriend Ethan. Hey, can I ask you a question? He said. Yeah, sure. I responded.
Okay, what do you want for your birthday? He asked. You don't have to get me anything. I said. But I want to get you something. He said. Too bad. I replied. Well I am getting you something and there is nothing you can do about it.
My birthday is about one and a half weeks away. I will be turning 19. My birthday is November 19. It will be my fourth year living in New York, which is where I to school.
I used to live with my adoptive parents, and Mason. My parents died when I was 6, due to a drug overdose. I never talk about it.
I found a family pretty quickly, and aside from my past I had a normal childhood. Well, as normal as it could be. When high school came, and college came for Mason, I wanted to move to New York with him, so I did.
When we moved, I felt free from whatever past I might've had. Well, mostly free. I dated a couple people, guys and girls, and then I met Nico. I am really happy with him, and I don't want to ruin things with him.
I have just been going to high school like a normal girl, and only three people in our school know about my past. Amanda, Nico, and my other best friend Cait.
I am in my last year of high school. I want to go to Hamilton College, and study dance. I have good grades in school, and I think I can make it in.
I have been dancing for a long time. I started dancing when I was ten years old, and I am still taking a few classes a week.
Ethan kept asking me what I wanted for my birthday, and I kept telling him that he didn't have to get me anything.
He is really nice, and since him and Amanda have started dating, him and I have become friends, I think, I hope so at least.

The next day at school, Amanda wasn't there, so I just hung out with Nico. Usually I hang out with Amanda, but when she isn't here, I just stick with Nico.
"Hey, do you know where Amanda is?" Ethan asked me during lunch. "No, I haven't seen her." I told him. He sighed. "Well, is it okay if I hang out with you guys?"
"Yeah, that's fine." I say.
"Thanks. Hey Cait." He says. She smiles at him. We all talked for a little bit before the bell rang.
"Cait, we have the same class." I said. "Yes, and we are partners for our science project." She responded. I nodded and smiled.
We walked off from the boys, and we talked all the way to class.
