My eyes snap open, staring up at the darkness. Billie shifts beside me and her bare arm brushes against mine. I glance over at the nightstand beside us. The clock reads 5:30. I slowly climb out of bed, doing my best not to wake Billie. I slide into the cool hallway and trudge to the kitchen. I turn on the sink light.
After getting a drink of water, I sit down in front of my laptop. I open my word document and put on my headphones; I have to write my novel. My deadline is two months from now and I'm not even done editing the fourth chapter. I check over my shoulder to make sure that Billie isn't awake and start to type.
For three hours, I work on my novel, editing, cutting, and re-writing. About two hours in, my eyes droop so I make myself coffee. It helps me perk up and stay awake. Billie and I went to sleep around eleven last night, so I didn't get my normal amount of sleep.
I finish the chapter and knock down the dredges left in the coffee. I stand, stretching. Without warning, someone's arms wrap around my waist.
"Come back to bed," Billie says.
I turn, looking at my tired girlfriend. Her hair's all messy and her pale eyes stare up at me, all droopy and adorable.
I nod at my laptop, " I have to keep working, Billie-willie..."
"Please, mommas," Billie's bottom lip quivers and she pouts.
I know that I can't reisit her. That pout always gets to me. Billie smiles and drags me back to bed, holding me close to her. We snuggle until we both fall asleep.
