Echo's P.O.V
I'm being replaced. I watched them threw my cell window as they inserted microchips into the crying infant. They have never done that before. Normally they alter the child before its born.. not after. I got down off my bed and sat on it. I couldn't watch it anymore, but I could still hear the whimpers of the child as they cut it open to alter its genetics. I walked over to the corner and sat, and covered my ears, but I couldn't drown out the cries of the child.
Afters a while, the crying stopped. They opened my cell door and sat the sleeping infant on the floor, then walked out. I walked over to it and held it close to my chest, the child reeked of a metallic smell. I Looked down and scanned its arm. It had a bar code on it with the word "Chip" under it. Much like my arm had. Only it said "Echo" under mine.
I wasn't sure where they planned on keeping this child. This cell only consisted of a single bed. No crib, or anything to care for it. I walked over and set it on my bed and made a barrier with the blanket to make sure it didn't fall off. I then took of my sweeter and used it as a pillow on the cold concrete floor as i laid on it. I didn't get too comfortable though, because I knew that soon enough they would come to kill me, and replace me with Chip.
Why now? I've been here for 17 years, why replace me now?!
After about half an hour, the cell door opened and a guard stumbled in. I stood up only to be thrown onto a wall, as pain rippled threw my head, lucky for me pain wasn't in my genetics, so I could barely feel it. He came up way to close to my face, and his breath, (which reeked of alcohol) lingered on my face.
What the hell is he trying to do? Executions don't go this way!
He grabbed my hair and threw me to the ground, Chip woke, and started crying at the sound of the impact. The guard looked at chip, and his eyes widened then ran out of the cell. I felt laughter bubble up inside me. Even though I felt blood trickle down my face I couldn't help but smile. He left the door wide open.
