Namjoon's hands were sweating as he was left alone in his chambers, staring at himself in the mirror. This was actually happening. Why did it have to happen? He had never wanted the throne, contrary to popular belief. But he was getting it. Half of him wanted his hyung to wake up and save him, but the other half balked at the thought of trying to explain to Hoseok what had happened to Seokjin. This alone was enough to make Namjoon terrified of the possibility of Hoseok waking up.
A knock at the door. "Who is it?" He asked, and the door opened a little. "It's me, hyung." Namjoon relaxed and turned to see Jeongguk standing there nervously, cheeks flushed at the sight of Namjoon standing there in his king-worthy robes. "Come on in, Jeongguk-ah." He smiled softly, causing Jeongguk to close the door behind him. "I cannot stay long, hyung, for I fear that Taehyungie-hyung has something for me, but I just wanted to check up on you." Namjoon hid a smile, knowing exactly what Taehyung meant to give his dongsaeng, as Namjoon had been the one to ask him to give it to the younger. "I am doing okay, Jeonggukie. Thank you for checking up on me."
Jeongguk frowned. "You're not nervous? I think that if I were in your position, I'd be nervous." Namjoon smiled, not unkindly, at the naive omega. "I was the second Alpha prince, Jeongguk-ah. As much as it was taboo to speak of it, I was trained to take the throne should something happen to my older brothers." His smile faded a little. "Not that I expected it would ever happen." He sighed, plopping down on a couch. "I've had six years to come to terms with what happened, and yet, I still cannot let it go."
Jeongguk sat next to him, smiling gently. "It's natural to want to know what happened. And to be upset about it. Time doesn't heal all wounds, it just covers them up. Despite not even knowing my mother, I'm upset about her death. I know that if Taehyungie-hyung had disappeared, I would still be torn up about it. The only difference would be that you are going to be King, and as such, you have to search for answers a bit more subtly, but you have more resources." Namjoon nodded and a knock at the door echoed inside the room. It opened to reveal Advisor Lee, whose eyes flared up in surprise and something else as Jeongguk jumped up from his position next to Namjoon and bowed, biting his lip. "I must take my leave now. It was good to see you, Crown Prince. I wish you well on your coronation, and congratulations." He said quietly before bowing to Namjoon and Advisor Lee once more, quickly exiting.
Advisor Lee turned to look at Namjoon, who was now looking longingly at the door. "Get yourself together, Namjoon. It's your coronation day. I hope you are ready for what comes after. You are to wed in exactly one month, whether it is by your choice or ours." Advisor Lee, living up to his title, said. He wasn't unkind about it, he merely spoke the truth. And the truth was almost never kind.
The coronation was a long and grueling process. In all, it took about ten minutes out of the 3 months of preparation and 2 weeks of celebration afterwards to actually coronate the Prince, and the rest was just formalities. This is something that had annoyed Namjoon and before, Hoseok, to no end- the fact that people used the coronation for their own benefit- everything was more expensive, people from foreign countries and territories came to visit and trade and buy things, Namjoon received more gifts than he ever wanted or needed (most of which were useless, honestly), and the omegas of the country were overworked while the alphas and other, "high-ranking" second genders goofed around.
This was something, after Hoseok, Seokjin, and Namjoon and their father had attended a foreign Prince's coronation, and Seokjin had become upset over the fact that he was supposed to come all the way and work with the other omegas in the palace instead of be treated like the future Queen of their country, Hoseok deemed intolerable, and made to change it for his own coronation. Which, of course, never came.
