Words Can Hurt

Chapter 2

After lunch, the bulls went off to do their own thing.

"I love you, Valiente."

These words have sat at the edge of Guapo's tongue for years. He could never bring himself to spit them out during their days as fighting bulls, and Guapo couldn't see himself ever being able to.

Guapo paced back and forth. How could he possibly tell Valiente how he felt?

Guapo simply couldn't confess. He was talking about Valiente, a brown-eyed bull with a siren's voice who sang to the melodic thrumming of his own heart. Guapo could still hear that song in his mind, feel the shivers that ran down his spine as Valiente sang his heart out under the cork tree.

There was no way a handsome specimen like him would ever return his feelings, but a bull could dream, and it was in a lovestruck trance that Guapo began to sing:

To a brighter day in the sun

Guapo looked out the window. Valiente and Angus could be seen sitting under the cork tree, continuing their conversation from earlier. Angus spoke, and Valiente laughed. Guapo swooned. What he wouldn't give to be in Angus' place, listening to that seductive laugh.

"I won't give up on this feeling
And nothing could keep me away!" 🎵

Bones, who had been drinking from the water trough a moment earlier, looked up at the sound of Guapo's voice. Impressed by his best friend's vocal ability, the smallest bull made his way over to the stables.

🎵 "I know what's real cannot be denied,
Although it may hide for a while.
With just one touch love can conquer fears,

Bones slowly entered the stable and sat down, to avoid startling his best friend as he continued to sing.

🎵 "It's such a wondrous feeling
I know that my heart can't be wrong!" 🎵

🎵 "'Cause I still believe in destiny,

I still wish on the stars as they fall from above,
'Cause I still believe,
Believe in love." 🎵

🎵 "Love can make miracles,
Change everything!
Lift you from the darkness and make your heart sing!

It's the greatest power of all!" 🎵

"Boy, I swear, if humans could understand us, you'd have a record deal."

"Thanks, man."

Guapo almost jumped out of his skin as he realized his best friend had entered the stables without his knowledge.

"Wait a minute, how much of that did you hear?"

"Everything. How could I not listen to those pipes of yours?"
