Being alive, knowing that you’ve killed someone, is a terrible sin to bare. But we’re all sinners here, everyone has been on edge since we arrived. Naomi has been trying to figure out what is going on, on the ground. And came to the conclusion that we are the only remaining life on earth, or will be once we get back down there. Which Naomi said could be anytime now. Oliver and I have had nothing to do with ourselves, hanging around our room more often than not and trying to be helpful as much as possible. But thats hard when your not good at anything. I can shoot a gun, but that isn’t going to be any use until we get to the ground.
Oliver and I are in the middle of a conversation when Naomi radios us to the control room.
“What now?” I groan as Oliver pulls me out the door and down the hall towards the control room.
“Probably just another theory about the ground” He stops, turns and grins at me. He sees the hurt
in my eyes, “You couldn’t have saved them”
Ollie is referring to my sisters, “But if I-”
“No” He cuts me off, “You did the best that you could”
“I did nothing Ollie” I shout, “I did absolutely nothing to save them”
“You couldn’t have!” He lowers his tone, “You can't blame yourself... we have no idea what happened
yet. Naomi will find a way to get us to the ground”
I nod and he kisses me. I am overwhelmed every time our lips touch, he tastes of joy and comfort.
With our lips locked, I feel safe. Like we’re not floating aimlessly through space, like he and I are the only ones left. We break apart and make our way to the control room.
When we arrive, everyone is there except Alex who probably isn’t going to come.
“Now that everyone is here” Naomi rolls her eyes after noticing that Alex isnt of attendance, “So now that we know that it wasn’t radiation, and it wasn’t missiles, and the fact that we have no idea what happened. We’ve ruled out all possible explanations, and the only way to get further information is to go to the ground”
“So we go to the ground” Caleb interjects, “Then what?”
“We do further analysis and investigations, until we figure out what the hell happened on the
ground”
“And if the air is toxic?” Noah asks, his blue bed head hair not brushed.
“Then we die” Genesis answers, she is the closest thing we have to a doctor.
“Just like that?” Jeanette brushes a piece of long straight light brown hair back out of her face, giving us all a view of her beautiful ebony eyes.
“Just like that”
“Are we really going to take that risk?” Caleb asks.
The room falls silent before Noah proposes, “Then we send a team to the ground”
After what seemed like hours of arguing and planning, we came to a conclusion. Half of us were going to the ground.
