Inside there is no light, it's darkness haunts my head. I step out as the dogs run by me tails wagging and ears perked. I want to feel the carelessness of their actions. I want to be free of responsibility. I think to myself that for one moment I could clear my head. Once I am at the back fence, I open it with no hesitation. Five seconds later I am in front of my house. I look back once before making my way down the street. I know exactly where I'm going. I stare at the small blue screen of my tiny slider phone the whole way. Waiting for anything. Thoughts start to fill my head making me feel guilty because I am. When I've almost arrived, I quickly text: I'm at your house. I pass the barn and see my best friend already outside. She walks towards me. She laughs and I laugh as we greet each other across the long, rocky driveway. In the midst of my laughter, a wave of emotion surges through me. My smile turns to a frown and hot tears roll down my face. She notices my change of mood and rushes towards me. I'm being held by the arms of an angel. "Everything will be okay" she ensured. We stayed standing in the middle of her driveway until I was able to speak properly. I told her everything in between gasps. She walked me back to my house supporting me. We stood at my door for a second before I knocked. "I'm going to take a walk with her" I said to my grandma. She explained a bit more before we walked away. We talked and she got me to laugh until I couldn't stop. I was able to go home after clearing my head and that was one of many times she saved me from internal defeat.
