Dear Doctor Bonnie Hartnell,

It is a pleasure to recognize you as among the best medical practitioners in the supernatural community. Your abilities have met the SAA’s stringent criteria in all areas; intelligence, talents, education, medical reputation and scope of service.

It is for these reasons that the SAA wishes to offer you the position of Acting Primary Doctor (APD) for the New York pride, New York. The SAA feels confident that you are the most practicable individual for the position and would be honoured to have your assistance.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

         Sincerely,

         Sondra Blackwell
President of the Shifter Association of America
        (SAA)

It had been two weeks sense I had received the letter in the mail, signed and stamped with the SAA’s seal. At first, the offer was surprising. The SAA didn’t make a habit of hiring humans and I was as human as one could be. I would never be able to match the stamina, agility and speed that naturally accompanied the shifter race, and in an al fresco culture, that could prove to be a burden.

I supposed my professional credibility must have turned the consideration in my favour; however, otherwise the SAA wouldn’t have spared me a glance, let alone offered me the position. An APD was only a temporary stance in the pride, but one that required a strenuous amount of thought by the SAA.

I couldn’t deny that I was excited; the chance to work intimately with the shifter anatomy was a rare opportunity outside its own race. Shifters often trained young volunteers of their own species to become doctors, who then passed down this information to the next generation once they reached of age.

It was a constant cycle that was almost methodical in its approach.

         And I wanted in.

After much debate, I decided to pursue the unique job offer and took a six month leave from the UCAL Medical Centre. The decision meant transferring Tiberius, the nephew, from a human to a supernatural high school for the duration of our stay.

My primary concern with his transferral, despite his obvious lack of interest, was that I refused to have him be isolated by his own peers. Nothing catches the attention of the supernatural community better than the child of a demon.

Tiberius pulled into the parking lot of the domestic terminal, letting out a heavy sigh before sliding out of the driver’s door. It had started to drizzle, not enough to soak us, but enough for me to pull on my chequered cardigan. I paused to don my travel bag before circling around the back. Tiberius had already opened the boot and grabbed my luggage – all three cases of them.
