Chapter 1: The Birth

Joseph Lee, a member of the Singaporean blues rock band Blue Windows, was born on 17 March 1942. He was a fan of rock and roll music since young and decided to form a band with his friends in 1964. Since 1967, he had been planning to name his first son Morrison.

Why? Joseph’s favourite singer was Jim Morrison of The Doors. He loved Jim’s voice. What made him disappointed was Jim being raised in a Christian family but he himself did not believe in God and did many things that were evil in God eyes.

Joseph was the lead singer of his band while his four other friends played the guitar, hammond organ, harmonica, and drums respectively. He was married to his wife in November 1967 and they moved to a three-room flat in Toa Payoh. Months later, God called out to Joseph in his dreams and told him that his wife was pregnant with a boy. “Great!” Joseph thought,”he’s gonna be called Morrison.”

The day had come: 12 February 1969. Joseph’s wife was going to deliver the baby. Ray Manzarek was also born on 12 February, but thirty years earlier. They left their flat and strolled to the carpark downstairs. They got into their white Toyota and drove off to KK Women and Children’s Hospital located at Little India.

The traffic was smooth and the couple managed to arrive there within twenty minutes. Joseph’s wife was sent to the delivery ward. He could hardly contain his excitement. He could finally call someone Morrison.

Minutes later, the door flew open and the doctor signalled for Joseph to enter. The baby was indeed a boy Joseph finally saw Morrison for real. “Welcome to the world, Morrison Lee,” Joseph whispered. Joseph grabbed the phone in the ward and called his relatives’ homes one by one. Their relatives were thrilled that they all came to visit Morrison.

A few days later, Morrison and his mother were discharged from the hospital and they went back to their three-room flat. So far, Blue Windows has released around ninety songs and

they were all quite popular among Singaporeans. Joseph did not know that his son would also be a successful musician.
