Chapter 2: Light My Fire
Joseph exposed Morrison to Blues music since he was born. It seemed that Morrison enjoyed Light My Fire most out of all the songs Joseph introduced to him.
One month later, on 12 March 1969, a tent was built on the field beside their block. Over there, Joseph threw a party to celebrate Morrison’s first month of living. Joseph invited all his relatives and friends to the party. His church Reverend was invited too. Below is the schedule for the party.
16 00: Opening speech and prayer by Reverend
16 30: Singing of hymns
17 00: Photo taking with Morrison
17 30: Games
18 00: Dinner

The party started exactly at 4 p.m.. Firstly, the Reverend gave thanks to God for Morrison’s birth. Afterwards, he gave Joseph and his wife some encouragement including words of wisdom. He also interviewed the couple. At 4.30 p.m., everyone sang Joseph’s favourite hymns. They are To God be the Glory, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Thanks to God, He Lives, God Rest Merry Gentlemen, Jesus Loves Me and Onward Christian Soldiers.
Next, those who turned up at the party took photographs with Morrison. At 5.30 p.m., there were lots of scrumptious food such as Laksa, hard boiled eggs, chicken wings, fried rice, fish balls and cakes. At 7 p.m., Blue Windows got ready for their performance. They performed their cover of Light My Fire which was Singapore’s second most popular song during its release in January 1968. Morrison seemed to enjoy the chorus of the song.
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Next, they performed their first original written by Joseph called Light of the Morning. It was Singapore’s fourth most popular song when released in February 1965. Light of the Morning was released together with No Racism. No Racism was written to oppose the racial riots.
After all the performance, Joseph’s relatives and friends chatted jubilantly with one another. What a day it had been!
Every day without fail. Joseph would teach Morrison new words and even Chinese words. Morrison would also learn how to walk. When he was around six months old, he could articulate a number a words without much problem. Joseph was quite pleased about it. Morrison could even count from one to forty and read some Chinese words. Joseph recorded Morrison’s learning progress.
